The fact that you have 872 points and a silver star indicates that you do very little in terms of commenting or critising the work of others. The operative word at TrekLens is participate. I'm sure you are satisfied when someone comments on your work or offers a well-intended suggestion - so do others. So give it a try.

As for your photograph, I like it very much. I would not have included the frame because I don't think frames enhance a picture at all, the picture has is or it doesn't - on it's own merit. All in all, a pleasant well-composed photograph.

I would like to see more sky above the statue. As it is, it appears as if the horseman is pinned in from the top. This feeling is exagerated by the black frame right above his head. Why people think frames enhance their photos is beyond me; they don't. I would also think a different POV would be better: it seems as if your horseman is about to ride out of the picture and over a cliff. Your composition is all wrong: your horseman has no connection whatever with the images of the men on the wall to the right. You tried to make one photograph from two disparate images. I hope you know my criticism is well-intended; I do not just praise a photograph when I do not think it deserves praise. When I take the time to evaluate a photograph I give my honest opinion.

I like it - a lot. I like the shadow and the way it feeds one imagination. I like the detail texture of the wall. And I love the contrast generated by they vibrant colours. And I think the composition is perfect. Bravo!

This is an example of what I referred to when I said you have a very fertile imagination. You were able to "see" this image in your mind's eye before you snapped the shutter. This is photography: the compositin, the symetry and most of all the interest in imparts in the viewer. Where do those steps lead? What could you see from the top? the ocean? the city? Great work.

If you had trouble with this picture I don't know what it was. It couldn't be shaper, and there is no reason to apologise. This is a great shot, well composed and compelling. The detail is very impressive and the way you caught the eyes of one of the men looking at the other could not have been posed. You focused on the men and must have used a large aperature to throw the background out of focus and draw the eyes straight to the marching soldiers. Great job.

You have 263 points which suggest a fairly active level of participation when it comes to posting photographs, yet you don't even have a silver star. A silver star is only meaningful to the extent that it shows your level of participation when it comes to commenting and critiquing others. After all, this is supposed to be a two-way street.

By the way, a very nice phototgraph but I would have cropped off quite a bit of the right side; at the very least I would have darkened the light area behind the woman.

Hi Marie:

How did I ever miss this wonderful photograph. The golden leaves of fall add a very dramatic effect. And how well you captured the feeling of fall with the otherwise muted colours. So well composed. Thanks for sharing.

Julie

I see you have 211 points and not even a silver star. This means that you take very little if any time with the photographs of others. This is a two-way street; take the time to view and COMMENT or CRITICIZE on the work of others. Do you even respond to the comments made on your work? This is a good photograph. I like the intensity of the eyes of your subject as well as the composition.

You have 978 points yet you have not gold star. This means you have rarely viewed and commented on the photos of others. This is supposed to be a two-way street. You should participate whether to comment or critize; that is what make this site work as it is supposed to. Do you ever respond to the comments made on your photos?

Very nice photograph, well composed and well lighted.

You have 1334 points and not even a silver star. This means that either you don't even look at the pictures of others or you choose not to comment. This is a two way street, you are supposed to consider the photos of others just as they consider yours. Participate. Nice photo.
