Hi Rew,
Great photo, looks almost like a B&W from the thumbnail. I prefer this to your previous photo of the glacier. And a great workshop photo to show the scale too - it's immense isn't it!
I spent a month in New Zealand last September/October '06 and spent 3 days in Franz Josef waiting for the weather to improve so my girlfriend and I could take a trip up to the glacier. The rain came down like glass rods and the wind howled and blew non-stop and there was so much low-lying cloud that for most of the time I struggled to see 50 metres away let alone this majestic glacier! Unfortunately, in the end the weather didn't relent and we ran out of time and had to move on.
Regarding this photo: Composition is great and obviously having the people in there helps to visualize the size of this ice flow. Good detail too. Well done and thanks for posting. Atleast now I know what I missed!!! :(
Regards,
Rich
Very clever PP work, Freddie. You've got the angle perfect and I like the foot coming out of the frame to really bring this monstrous creature to life. My only slight criticism is that I think you need to change the lighting on the terrapin to match the light on the beach. If you increased the yellow in the terrapin layer a little to give a more "sunny colour" and put a very subtle spotlight effect shining down on his back I think it would be even more realistic. Great job though!
Best regards from England,
Rich
Hi Freddie,
This is a great photo, such fantastic colours and tremendous sharpness. Very informative note and I like your observation that these 2 menacing terrapins had just slain the viking, it made me laugh!
Well framed and well observed! All the best from England,
Rich
For a first-ever photo this is pretty good, Nigel and I like the note just as much. You deserve the 2 points just for posting it in my opinion.
I guess no one would like to see a close-up of my thumb so I'll leave my first ever photo in the loft with the blurry photos of the budgie and my lego creations!
Cheers,
Rich
Hi Nigel,
Terrific PP work you've done here to send this photo back in time. It's only when you start scrutinising the photo in any detail that you see the tell-tale signs of modernity. Great composition and the over-exposure in the sky adds to the vintage feel - not really sure what I mean by that but it seems right for the image! You just need a Ford Model T trundling into the foreground and it'd be perfect. Well done, great job!
Rich
Hi Michel,
This is a terific image - I love the colours and especially the textures on this container. Personally I find the shadow a little distracting as opposed to being perhaps a focal point but a couple of people haved mentioned that they think it enhances the composition. Great lighting too, by the way. Well done and best regards from England,
Rich
Hi Vlad,
Great title and note [can I call those 5 words a note? ;)]. They convey exactly what you are getting at anyway with this spider's web of entangled wires and cables. Infact, it makes it seem like there isn't time to write more, we are almost trapped!!! Great idea to turn the image into a montone negative - it makes it a little bit more surreal and the wires really stand out.
Great photo, well done! Greetings from England,
Rich
Hi James,
Excellent composition. The large amount of space means it would work well too as a book cover or a poster or some other such product as there is a large amount of empty space inwhich to put text. It's a pity you cropped off the ends of his fingers though. That's my only negative to this piece. Otherwise, superb. Great colour, I agree with you there - boring but perfect!
Great job, well done!
Rich

Hi Rew,
This "hastily shot portrait" is pretty good really! The composition is very strong with the close crop and the diagonal of the arm and the colours of the garment are very complementary to the skin tones and the eye make-up (should I be complementing you on this fact though or your model?!). Anyway, I like it that you have picked up on this turquoise colour with a subtle keyline in your frame which is a good enhancement. Nice detail, nice pose and regarding your PP work: good smoothing of the skin and good sharpness.
Regards,
Rich
