Hi Usaf - I really like the fact that you have tried to produce something different. The brush strokes are a good idea but a little strong, try reducing the opacity of the layer so that the background shows through. AS for your subject, the there is plenty of character in your image, the strong colour plus the detail of his wrinkles adds to the overall effect. I don't think "blown highlights" [being only small] make any difference to the strength of this portrait.
