At a visit to a temple, literally in the middle of nowhere... here stand three sphynx (sphynxes?) lining the entrance to what was once a grand temple.
Standing around in the hot desert sand for three millennia, supporting the weight of a heavy stone beam can be tough. One of them actually lost his head in the process!
At this desolate location on the shores of Lake Nasser in Aswan, plunderers or possibly oponents of the Pharaoh who built this temple had plenty of time to efface the faces of the statuary. Such a dreadful shame...
Nevertheless, this place stands proud in a landscape that pretty much looks like that of the planet Mars - Yes, I've been to Mars! Ha! Wandering about the place strikes you with a sense of awe.
Shot this snap with my Pentax. No filters. No tripod. No flash. No pp. Some resizing. No cropping. Three sphynxes. |
