The Mosque Mohammud Ali Pasha in Cairo

This will be the last of my series of the religious houses theme (for the time being). Picturing and posting all kind of churches temples and other religious houses might give the viewer an impression of a very religious Green Baron in matter of fact I’m not. But all over the world the religious houses are often eye catching like this impressive mosque build on the Citadel in Cairo which is build on an impressive hill. This mosque can’t be missed in my portfolio of ‘impressive buildings in the world’.

I also visited the inside of this beautiful building and as you know you have to leave your shoes outside. After a long day walking through the hot dusty streets of Cairo together with my travel companions I didn’t like that idea but of course respected it. The consequence were that I entered the mosque together with ten fellows but within one minute I was on my own...I still don’t know why! ;)

PP-talk:
- straightened with perspective tool
- increased brightness and contrast slightly (+6)
- used “JohnT-trick” to add minaret into the frame
- add frame and text

Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha

The Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha or Alabaster Mosque is a mosque situated in the Citadel of Cairo in Egypt and built by Muhammad Ali Pasha between 1830 and 1848.
Situated on the summit of the citadel, this Ottoman mosque, the largest to be built in the first half of the 19th century, is, with its animated silhouette and twin minarets, the most visible mosque in Cairo. The mosque was built in memory of Tusun Pasha, Muhammad Ali's oldest son, who died in 1816.

Citadel of Cairo

The Saladin Citadel of Cairo (Arabic: قلعة صلاح الدين‎) is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Cairo.
It is sometimes referred to as Mohamed Ali Citadel (Arabic: قلعة محمد علي‎), because it contains the mosque of Mohamed Ali (or Muhammad Ali), which was built almost 7 centuries later. The Mosque of Muhammad 'Ali Pasha was built between 1828 and 1848, perched on the summit of the citadel. The Ottoman mosque was built in memory of Tusun Pasha, Muhammad `Ali's oldest son, who died in 1816.
The location, part of the Mokattam hill near the center of Cairo, was once famous for its fresh breeze and grand views of the city, and was fortified by Saladin between 1176 and 1183 AD, to protect it from the Crusaders. The citadel stopped being the seat of government when Egypt's ruler, Khedive Ismail, moved to his newly built Abdin Palace in the Ismailiya neighborhood in the 1860s.

Hans,
The image is captivating enough- with the lighting, blue skies and beautifully detailed structure ---but your framing choice really enhances this. BRAVO. A+ Julie

Hallo Hans,

Dze manier van in kader zetten van de foto verhoogt absoluut het imposante van de moskee.
