Khufu - Χεωψ - Cheops [please wipe your feet before entering]

Again here a business man from the ‘Rent-a-Camel’, Giza division. While I was on my camel, poor animal, (rented via my taxi driver Ali, refer this note) I encountered this man on his camel, who perhaps was thinking: “How did that guy get a camel so early in this Sunday morning?” ….”poor animal” Or may be he was just afraid he had to clean up the area to make it dust free, you never know :)

Anyhow, while stumbling around on this camel (poor animal), I could make some nice shots of the impressive pyramids of Giza, here the largest one, the famous pyramid of Pharao Khufu or in Hellenic Cheops.

- increased saturation of the sky

Pyramids of Giza

The Great Pyramid is the oldest and the largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis bordering what is now Cairo, Egypt in Africa. The oldest and only remaining member of the Seven Wonders of the World, it is believed to have been constructed over a 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC.The Great Pyramid was built as a tomb for Fourth dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu (hellenized as Χεωψ, Cheops), and is sometimes called Khufu's Pyramid or the Pyramid of Khufu.

The Great Pyramid is the main part of a complex setting of buildings that included two mortuary temples in honour of Khufu (one close to the pyramid and one near the Nile), three smaller pyramids for Khufu's wives, an even smaller "satellite" pyramid, a raised causeway connecting the two temples, and small mastaba tombs surrounding the pyramid for nobles. One of the small pyramids contains the tomb of queen Hetepheres (discovered in 1925), sister and wife of Sneferu and the mother of Khufu. There was a town for the workers of Giza, including a cemetery, bakeries, a beer factory and a copper smelting complex. More buildings and complexes are being discovered by The Giza Mapping Project.

A few hundred metres south-west of the Great Pyramid lies the slightly smaller Pyramid of Khafre, one of Khufu's successors who is also commonly considered the builder of the Great Sphinx, and a few hundred metres further south-west is the Pyramid of Menkaure, Khafre's successor, which is about half as tall.

The generally accepted estimated date of its completion is c. 2500 BC. Although this date contradicts radiocarbon dating evidence it is loosely supported by a lack of archaeological findings for the existence prior to the fourth dynasty of a civilization with sufficient population or technical ability in the area. Nice postcard. Could perhaps do with a bit more contrast. Thanks for your note. Alfred

Hi Hans,
Very nice capture, the man and camel give a very good scale of the size of the pyramid ...
Very informative note too.
Well done, Monsieur le Baron !
Sylvie

Prachtige plaat weer Hans mooie vlakverdeling Qua kleur zou ik de lucht in een wat harder bauw willen zien, kwestie van smaak denk ik. Verder gewoon een mooie plaat lekker scherp met mooie structuren.

Grtz Pim

Hi Hans,
Very interesting point of view on the main pyramid, I'll remember to wipe my feet before entering the tomb, not to mix recent dust with the sacred old one...
Mary

Very nice shot. Good sharpness and details.
And how was the camel ride. Got seasick?
Pierre

Hello Hans,
I like the layout on this composition. The camel looking straight ahead with the pyramid behind him. The lighting is excellent with an overall nice warm feel to it. Well done and TFS Julie

Hi Hans
I enjoyed the notes and it was the angle of the shot that caught my attention. The upwards slope, the angles of the pyramid, I like the frame you chose, this is postcard worthy.

Hi Hans,
Good POV in this picture. The problem with the pyramids is that they have been photographed so many times, it is difficult to find a view that we have not seen before. well done.
Sunil

hi Hans,
Great postcard shot - I can almost feel the heat from the desert sun ;-))

Hi Hans, great compositio with a great great pyramid and lovely camel, wonderful perspective and splendid colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Very nice composition here Hans
An off-centre placement of the pyramid, with inclusion of the obligatory camel, makes for an interesting and unusual view of both.
Congratulations

Hi Hans,

Very difficult to hold a camera on a camel while walking, heh?? I've tried it and it was really fun... :))
A great photo of the Pyramids with the man on the camel! It looks like a postcard or it could be easily a stamp from Egypt... :))

Well done

Hi Hans,
what a nice composition, the contrast between the sky and the pyramid is great and the POV make the man and his camel look so small. Well you always look small beside a pyramid
I have read a couple of your notes and I like your sense of humour too.
Great work
Regards
Jean-François

Hans -
Your composition is always very nice and helpful.
It tells a lot of story about your photo. The pyramid is so pretty and i love the blue sky background which add beauty to the picture. I also like the effect on what you did and you have done a great job with this one. Great shot!
Congrats!
