SAKKARA STEPPED PYRAMID
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The first tombs of the pharaohs were large, unimpressive, bunker affairs called mastabas. They were made from sun dried mud brick and most have long since crumbled to dust. This all changed around 2630 BC with the erection of the step pyramid. It was made for the pharaoh, Djoser and began as a normal mastaba, but was subsequently enlarged by adding one mastaba on top of another until it consisted of six terraces some 200ft (60 meters) high. The surface was originally encased in smooth white limestone which must have caught the sun light and reflected its rays.

What a great shot.
I have never been to the pyramids. Its on a list of wanadoos. The scale of these things are stunning aren't they! I like the way this shot shows the size of the people to exaggerate the structure.
I really liked your note too. Very interesting and informative.

Thank You for the useful notes.

HI Andre
I know how impressive this pyramid is because I toured Egypt back in 1990 (in the heat of June!) during which time I visited Sakara. It really is so impressive and your photo captures its magnificence. The Sahara desert was a furnace but it was well worth the visit as were all the pyramids. Good composition and use of lighting, the latter can often be really harsh for photography. Well done! You may like to check out my TL portfolio, it includes one of my Egyptian photos I took whilst inside a tomb. TFS.

Hi Andre,
Beautiful tone and color .. great scale provided by the people .. I love the central placement of the pyramid .. I think it adds a real meditative feel to the image.
