[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi Everyone. Another experiment into Infrared photography. The shot was a badly washed out version of one of my first contributions to T.L. The P.P. was done using a tutorial video on You Tube This is a link to the video I then added a small amount of Blue to the sky using Digital Film Tools Grad filter.

Comments and critiques comparing this conversion to a genuine infrared shot would be gratefully recieved. Points are of little or no importance to me.

Thanks for looking. Regards Phil.

P.S.Howard Shirley AKA gerbilratz has suggested some vignette be added to my pseudo infrared images. I'm not keen on multi posting the same images on T.L. to view these edits Click here

SPLENDID COMPOSITION..
TFS

Hi philip,

Great PP work! It realy looks like a scene out of a fantasy movie. The colourtones are perfect! In comparence to the original the boats now seem less unsharp. (if I'm correct the focus is on the mountain) The colours realy make the photo a completion and that's a big improvement on the first photo. (Wich was also vey nice :-))
Well done!

TFS Greetings Simone

think this works better than the last one. the colours suit the landscape more. and the boats look lovely in their uniformity.tfs

Hi Phil,
A very special image of the Nile at Aswan Anyway , the blue tone makes it an weird but attractive view. Great posting!
Hans

N.B. did you went up to the monastry at the hill?

Good technique, unusual colouration, but very effective. this is interesting stuff!!!

beautiful blue tone picture with an interesting composition.you manage position of all ships very well especially the boat with triangle flag make this picture outstanding.I like light& shade at the flags and light behind the island.I think they made this shot more interesting.

HI Philip

Interesting and original effect you have created here. Works very well. Great POV too, I remember this well from when I travelled to Aswan by train all the way from Cairo many years ago.

An awesome place to visit on the Nile and this is an awesome photo.

TFS,
Martyn

Hi Philip, your PP work, certainly makes this image vibrant. What a sight to see in person, all those craft with their sails blowing in the wind must be impressive.I like your POV makes for a good composition.

Hello Philip

I love this shot, nice repitition in with the boats and the hues and tones here are superb. Infrared is not something I have tried yet but I am definatly keen to have a go after seeing this.

Hi Phil, this is a beautifully composed shot. I also like the desaturated version. Through my work I have access to a proper infrared industrial camera, I will take some shots and try to post one. The results will not have the definition or clarity of a modified normal shot but it will be interesting to try!
Cheers, Les

Hi Phil,
An interesting experiment, looks like a mid winter scene. Beautiful lighting on the sails, well seen.

Hi Philip
I know this place. Very much nicely you demonstrated them. Good job.
Anna

I don't know about all that technical stuff - but I do know a good picture when I see one! And this is an original!

Love it!
Esther

Hi Phil,

This looks great, the effect is amazing.

Cheers
Tom

Hey Philip

Very interesting IR study, here. I like the symmetry of the sails with the bright 'colour' in contrast to the blue BG.
Although this is not an 'ordinary' scene (for an European) the IR makes it even more interesting.

Hi Philip,

I really like this one. Very good composition and IR processing goes well with this shot.

TFS,

cioa Philip.. nice to meet you!!
experiment is really cool!! wonderful.. it looks taken at north pole!! beautiful idea and realise!! thanks
ciao Marco

A stunning picture - the colour wash effect is really eyecatching and is a superb technique (one which I definately need to use). The composition of the picture is strong with the sails contrasting well against the cliff in the background. Great stuff!
Thanks for sharing
Mark

Hello Philip,
great snowy effect you have achived here.
Regards Caesar

Philip...........clearly a man on an infrared mission!!

I can't say I'd want to hang it on my wall - even if I had a wall - but the repetative shining sails are indeed graphically impressive. So much so that more thana little time passes before the grand scale of this shot makes itself apparent.

Overall, perhaps IR is better suited to "black and white" where an ethereal reality - one step removed - is retained.

Good to experiment, for sure.

colin
