The Pyramids of Giza

The pyramids of Giza are perhaps the only true rival to the Great Sphinx when one thinks of ancient Egypt and its architecture. The Valley of Giza-- with its wonderful monuments-- is truly a marvel of architectural prowess. The three largest pyramids located in the valley consist of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Kafhre and the Pyramid of Menkaura. Each Pyramid is a tomb dedicated to a different king of Egypt.
All three pyramids were built during the Third and Fourth Dynasty; these structures resulted from a monumental effort by the king (and his sons). The Pyramid of Khufu has a base which covers roughly a nine acre area (approximately 392,040 square feet). The Pyramid of Menkaura, unlike the other pyramids, has granite covering one tier of its base. The Pyramid of Khafre had a two-tiered base encased in granite.
Unfortunately, like many of the great kings of the Old Kingdom of Egypt, the Pyramids of Menkaura, Khufu, and Kafhre were not finished by the end of each respective king's reign. As an example: in the case of Menkaura, the king died before its construction was completed. The monuments of Giza and the entire Giza Valley stand as a marvelous reminder of the skill executed in the creation of the pyramids, and are truly fabulous to see…

My Story:

My trip to Cairo, and visiting the Pyramids and that overwhelming experience, was with a group of friends basically living in the history book for more than 2 hours, while riding the camels and melting almost fading away in the heat of the desert, we had to stop many times cuz even the camels couldn’t tolerate it!!! and my luck as usual my camel decided to suddenly SIT DOWN without even hinting and of course my heart stopped for few seconds and I bit the dust for few minutes but this is when we laughed ssso hard cuz the rest of the camels decided to do the same and we all tumbled on top of each other! Funny little dramas are always after me…that’s the best part!!!
I actually took this photo from the camel’s POV before he took his cute decision!!!! :)

Hello Suzy,

It can't have been easy to give 'newness' to these frequently photographed images. However, your sympathetic framing has given it a real sense of age.
The pov is well chosen, giving a good sense of perspective.
The sandy coloured tones show up very well against the vivid blue of the sky.

This is a wonderful color tone and composition of the pyramid scene. Very nice composition in the right proportion to show the landscape with a superb capture of blue sky to give good contrast. Very lovely view. Great shot.

dear Suzy,
an unique point of view for Pyramids,
in my feeling, this your shot shows me the crystallized old time...
surely these becomes very regular mountains in the desert, after all human is a kind of natural "orogeny"...
when I serched those pyramids on Google Earth camera, those are not so vivid to my eyes.
anyway your shot reminds me of some stories in the desert, like "Le Petit Prince".

I ve seen this scene cause in 2004 I went to Egypt and I must say I hadn t a good camera that time. I took the photo exactly like this one but the quality is far away from yours.

Ha!Ha!,great story about the camel Suzy, seems they have a mind all of their own.
I like your presentaion of these Pyramids,the gorgeous blue sky against the brown of both the structures & the foreground sand gives the feeling of a very hot day.Your frame makes this view seem timeless,it could have been taken
years ago. May I ask what the thin white strip is at the bottom of the first Pyramid to the right?
