What a great smile! Don't often see these guys giving that much in front of the lens. Superb capture. It's a sure sign of a good photographer when you can build a raport like this in a few seconds.
Welcome dude! This is a lovely site. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. :-)

Ok, first of all: WOW! That's a superb portrait John! ...and secondly: Welcome to TL! ;P
It's a very nice portrait indeed...you managed to connect with the man and it shows well. The sparks in his eyes and smile wins it for me! Well done!
A very promising start John. I'm adding you to my faves...looking forward to ur photos. Cya
I did a small workshop but unfortunately I can't upload it. I did a b&w duotone and added a black border around it. It seems to have more strength and mood that way. If you want it, lemme know. cheers

John,
This shot reminds me of one of my personal favorites that I refrained from posting because I used a time-stamp on my camera and it interferes with the subject.(I learned)
I really think this is a great photo but I cannot get past the copyright being in the photo itself. When you downsize it in photoshop(or whatever program you use)for Trek Lens, it actually doesn't allow anyone to see it very big (except on this site) Really, send the photo to yourself via email and see! Make sure you send the exact size print you submitted to Trek Lens. Welcome to Trek Lens and If this photo is any indication, I'm sure your going to make a fine addition to this wonderful photography site.
One of the important things you have to remember is that people see things in every different perspective imaginable and most give honest critiques. I hope to have learned to use it to my advantage.
I look forward to your future postings.
Scott

Hi John and welcome to TL! A great first entry. There are many stories in this man's face. Perhaps a bit of forward distortion but it works in the context. Look forward to more of your work. B

There is so much life this man has already lived and oh, the stories I bet he loves to tell. Wonderful first post, John.
The issue of your copyrite is a personal one. I understand your protection of your own art. I can't think of anyone that I know here that uses one. I used to put my signature in a font sytle on my photo, but seldom do that anymore. I do use a heart "logo"somewhere in my photo, but it is only a part of my style and personality. I would hate to see you stop posting becasue of the copywrite as your first photo is so very good.....:O)

Great shot, amazing. It's rare to see portraits like this, I don't see them as often as I'd like to anyway. This one has got all the elements of a great picture.
Nice work.

Great catch, John - lovely smile and composition! I'm curious about the original and what PP you did, because strong sun and harsh shadows are difficult to deal with indeed.
Kind regards,

Hi John......almost there with this one. A good tight crop doesn't hurt anyone, but due to your very close crop, it is essential to get pin sharp focus, which I have to say is missing here. It may be a result of downsizing and scanning, but regardless, it wouldn't go far in a competition.
Exposure is still a little overdone, particularly top left over the hood thing where details have been bleached out.
A good attempt....in harsh unlight, may be a good idea to bracket the shots and pick out the best.............post processing an under-exposed shot is far easier than one over-exposed. Apart from that, you have captured a nice smile, catchlights, and a face with lots of character. Regards....Steve. P.S. I have to say that the copyright is somewhat obtrusive and a smaller, well placed and suttle attempt would be beneficial.

Brillian shot!
Definately even NG worthy. I guess this is how people looked there 100 years ago and 1000 years ago. The only thing I don`t like is the small size and ugly signature.
Congrats,
Bogdan

I think this is a fantastic photograph, but it's a shame that you've put a massive copyright declaration at the bottom. I won't let it affect my critique, but I think you'll be ok leaving them off in the future. Anything that you put into the publich domain is automatically copyrighted anyway. Still, amazing shot, and welcome to Treklens, I'm fairly new myself, it's very enjoyable!

Incredible photo, John. I was going to disagree with phi75 that you shouldn't put your name in the photo, but I'm thinking he was trying to steal images, as his account has now been disabled! If you shot this with the Canon and a Sigma 70-200mm lens, I'd like to know how far from this man you were? Ever since traveling through Guatemala in 1993, I've avoided pictures of people. As I take shots, and watch others take shots, of people, I sense many people feel that I'm taking from their soul. I'm sorry for taking this amazing portrait into a deeper philosophical discussion, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Thanks for sharing this shot, and thanks in advance for any feedback you can give me on the matter. I might dig through pictures I have of people and throw a couple portraits I've taken up for people's review. Again, thanks. -Kelly
