[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot was taken in the Amboseli National Reserve in the Rift Valley Province. A matriach leading members of the family away from a watering hole where they had been standing shoulder deep feeding on rushes. Our guide told us the baby was only a few days old.

Amboseli is on the border of Tanzania, North West of Mount Kilimanjaro (5985m) it is at 1180m above sea level. In one form or another Amboseli has been a National Reserve since 1968 it covers 392 square kilometres and is famous for it's big game and great scenery.

Amboseli is taken from the Masai word 'Empusel' which translates as 'salty dust'.

There are over 900 elephants in the reserve, it is one of the best places in Africa to watch elephants.

This image was scanned from a 35mm colour negative and post processed in Photoshop CS.

Good clear shot of these amazing animals. It's hard to know how much was 'lost in translation' through the scanning process; the saturation seems a little low, although perhaps that's how the colours really were.
Impressive photo - this is the only way elephants should be 'shot'!
