I have other Lesotho photos on my Trek Earth site (doreeneden)
I have not been further into Lesotho than the area of about 5 miles around the top of the Sani Pass, but hopefully will get into the 'real' Lesotho one day. The people in this area are known for the coloured and patterned blankets they wear; even the youngest of them trailing saftey pinned blankets behind them.
Basutoland was renamed the Kingdom of Lesotho upon independence from the UK in 1966. King MOSHOESHOE was exiled in 1990. Constitutional government was restored in 1993 after 23 years of military rule. In 1998, violent protests and a military mutiny following a contentious election prompted a brief but bloody South African military intervention. Constitutional reforms have since restored political stability; peaceful parliamentary elections were held in 2002

Thsi must have been a really difficult situaton to shot in Doreen. With such strong contrasts...the very light areas where the sun hits and the deep shados. The ca,mera must have had a hard time determaine the exposure. It seem to have been a bit over exposed, reading the exposure from the midle tones might have worked better here. It is also a bit unsharp...that could be from the scanner i supose.
