Thought I might mix it up a bit....My first ever photo in Morocco! I was still unsure of how blatent I should be with my camera there, so was kindof 'shooting from the hip'. The vendor was stirring the snails constantly, hence the blurriness of them. (I have posted a Workshop to show you a bowl of them with broth, please visit it!)
This escargot in a spicy broth was unlike any I had ever had before. They were amazingly delicious and I have been craving them horribly ever since I have returned to the USA.
If you ever make it there(see where, below), try these small escargot, you wont be disappointed! And at a nearby stand, try the spicy tea and cake, wow!
I have hunted and searched for any recipe that even sounds remotely close to what I had, but with no success. If anyone knows how this is made, I ask you to please share that knowledge with me!
They are to be found in Marrakech, in the famous Jemaa el-Fna, amongst numerous other sellers of food, musicians, dancers, storytellers, showmen, tooth-pullers, fortune-tellers, snake charmers and the glorious sights of the souks.
Jemaa el-Fna has a gruesome past. Until the 19th century, criminals on whom the death sentence had been passed were beheaded here. Sometimes up to 45 people were executed on a single day, their heads being pickled and suspended from the city gates!! eeek!
Thank goodness, no traces are left of this!!! Now there is just a large market in the mornings and the most heavenly tasting fresh-squeezed orange juice. As the evening approaches, it turns into the above-mentioned multi-faceted open air show. |
