This is my first attempt ever at a triptique.

My reasoning was that it would somehow show different faces of the Sossusvlei area.

This dry lake in the dunes is called "Dooie Vlei". Translated it means: dead marsh. No, or very little chance of water here, though. So marsh is not really a good description.

Once in every ten years there is enough water to cover the dry lake to some extent. And every once in a long while, it is fully covered in water, about 3ft deep.

The dry lake area is white, because of the high lime content washed into the area over more than a couple of years, seeing that it happens every decade or so.

The dead trees probably gave rise to the reference to death in its name. To me it has an almost apocalyptic feel of the classic idea of dead souls rising, grasping and gasping from a sort of torture in the deep. (This view works best when one is under the influence of some sort of hallucinating drug, like LSD or similar. ;-) One would not make the climb over the dunes to the lake when drugged, though)

The view is worth the climb to this magical place.

All three images were post processed with a slight adjustment for shadows and a slight crop and framed.

I see I can post the image in a bigger format. I'll do that later....... time, time, time...

Outstanding.

I can always tell your shots from anyone elses most of the time because of the depth of the colors. They are really great and unique. Very well done with this sequence of pictures. Nicely framed and a great note.
TFS!

Nice work. I like the symetry between pictures on the left and on the right. Though maybe aligning the "horizon" line, i.e. separation between white and red sand, at least between those 2 pictures might have worked even better.

The colors are amazing.

sure.beutifully composed assembly with strong images and great colours. Janos
