Kokerboom Forest.

from www.namibia-travel.net:
About 13 kilometres north-east of Keetmanshoop lies the spectacular and much photographed Kokerboom or quiver tree forest on the farm Gariganus. The site has been declared a National Monument.

The quiver tree or "Kokerboom" is indigenous to the hot and dry southern part of Namibia. The plants are succulents and can reach a height of up to 9 metres in height. They have adapted to the extreme environmental conditions by storing water in their trunks. The tree only blossoms for the first time after 20 to 30 years and can reach 300 years of age. The wood is very light and spongy inside. And because the trunk and branches can be easily hollowed out, they were used as quivers by the bushmen (San people) who formerly inhabited this area.

'Morning Achim,
A superb contribution to this week's theme. The unrecognized tree (to me that is) is well framed, the forest appears very arid as evidenced by the slightly hazy but intense blue sky. Exposure appears optimum. Well done and my best regards. Danilo

Hello Achim,

Very unusual trees captured in this shot, full of shapes and textures. Strong sunshine and heat haze seem evident but do not spoil your sharp focus.
My only suggestion would have been to include something which would give us a clue towards the scale.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

HI Achim
Interesting note and fascinating tree.
The countryside looks rugged yet very arid and vast, their desert I presume.
Its a very good entry for the theme and thank you for sharing.

hello Achim

the 1st impression I got when looking at this photo is extremely Hot weather and dryness, the blue sky and the clarity in it say that out loud too.. fantastic info about the Kokerboom tree and how it stores water in its trunk... you captured the atmosphere amazingly, the placement of the trees, the DOF and all the details and the contrast of colors are nicely presented and framed... excellent contribution for the theme..

It's interesting to see the many types of trees in this theme, but this is probably the most unique to me. Very interesting landscape as well. Lovely detail. TFS

hi Achim

Wow! I am impressed.

This type of tree is very special and unique.

I have seen and am impressed with the Baobab african tree and even though this is smaller, it is also very interesting.

You did very nicely with this composition and POV to enhance the beauty of the tree in such a blue theme of the landscape and the bare land.

Good work.

tfs, bill
