Taken in the House of Slaves in Gorée island, near Dakar on that hot Sunday afternoon of June when I went for the first time in that place I heard about so many times.
I was afraid of what I would feel there and I was right to be.
The emotion is so strong, it chokes you, ... difficult not to cry, not to imagine what they suffered when you walk in the rooms where they were kept, examined, weighed, ...
The worst moment is when you arrive at the "door of the travel with no return" !
Many people, Black American people, come here on the traces of their ancestors, they want to see the place where they were imprisoned, men, women and children in separate jails, the place from which they left Africa forever, before crossing the Atlantic to go and work on the American continent in terrible conditions. Many of them didn't survive during the travel on the boats.

Mr. Joseph N'Diaye, aged 82, dedicated his life to the House of Slaves, which is today a Museum. You meet him when you visit the place, he welcomes everyone in his office.
He says : "On all continents, the duty of memory is necessary to build the future."

"The slave of slavery is the one that doesn't want to know." (a personal translation of a famous poet from West Indies, Edouard Glissant).

Strong but beautiful post Sylvie!

Great journalism! History is made of so many horrors. And they are still going on in different ways.

Trading illegal immigrants, trading young ladies, etc.... The world is better than in those days certainly, but there is still a lot to do to improve it.

Keep on the good work!
Robert
Smily will follow

A bit fuzzy on my end here, I did a workshop for you. Hope you like it!
Linda

Very emotional picture. It tells a story and it's a pretty sad one from what you said in the note. Nice composition, bright colors, and nice contrast. Cool picture, sad story.

my eyes are always looking at TL and I have to comment this photo.
Respect, tolerance, discrimination... here again... always the same words. I hope that one day they will diseppear...
About the phot, great colors ans this boy... what is he thinking about? That it ends one day maybe.
Thanks Sylvie

F.

Nice warm colours and the model is well positioned. I like the contrating curved wall on the left against the straigt lines on the right.

Bravo!

very nive place and composition, tfs

Excellent catch, fantastic shadows

Hello Sylvie... The warm tones make this composition attractive... I do like the vertical alignment... The balance between dark and light parts... Great...

Great shot Sylvie. Colors and the shadows are amazing. I like the natural standing of the child. The shot is impressive with the story. Well captured.

Nice composition. Almost reminds me of a Kandinsky in some ways, with the irregular angles and nice colors.

Great Job.
