Critiques [Translate]

Hello Gavin,

Thanks for your visit to my gallery today. I usually stop by when someone leaves a comment or critique rather than send a simple thanks.
I see you're relatively new to TL and your intro says you want to learn more about photography. That's been my ambition too. I try to reciprocate as much as possible to the general membership by providing what little I know myself.

One of the things that I was told early in my membership was the importance of notes. It provides people with information about the subject in the image, and anything one might have done to the image (serving either as a do or don't for future reference as well). You can also include what you want to know about an image or Post-processing tips.

About this image:
I love moss and fungus on rocks and trees. I had a few in the past but deleted them because no one commented on them. One of the things I realized was the quality was poor and have since made some adjustments to those images (I don't think I posted them again). Here the colors are a bit muted and monochromatic. I like it very much. The texture of the image is fantastic. I think I would have cropped it so that only the two tree trunks took up the entire space. That brown leaf and the branch out of focus lead the eye away from the rich textures on the bark of the trees.

All the best,
Jim (points are off)

Hey Gavin - welcome to TL!

I loved the level of detail in your picture above - lichen is such a complex organism! I wanted to see how the picture would look after cropping as Jim suggested below - so I did a quick workshop - I hope you don't mind!

TFS, Cerys
