Year of the Model, finalist.

Made daddy proud. (*_^)

Took this one at home, played around in CS3 to add the dark background as it was dark purple.

Hope you enjoy

Hello Clint,
Excellent model, very good thought, maybe hands are needless at this portrait.

Hello Clint.
Excellent portrait of your little girl. She pose like a pro.!
Think after 12 years, She will be Miss South Africa.!
Take good care of her.

Well it's a portrait, and portraits are my passion, so you know I'm going to be picky.

(And I've also seen your previous work so I know what you're capable of.)

Good natural colours, good sharpness, and ok crop here. She really is photogenic and you've captured that well, and she has excellent eye contact with the camera, good confidence showing through.

Composition not so good - she should be more to the left, there's an unnecessary amount of negative space 'behind' her, when it should be in front (our left.)

POV is ok but I think a shot like this works better if you shoot from the model's shoulder- or chest-height.

Catchlights in her eyes aren't the best, you have pinpoint-lights in the centre of each pupil: catchlights work best at 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock positions in the subject's eyes.

The blending of clothing into background is deliberate, I understand - but it leaves the viewer striving to make that separation, which means that attention is drawn away from your chosen subject.

Keep shooting when you can - and my compliments to Storm.

Hello Clint!

Congratulations to your lovely Storm. Portrait is not my cup of tea. But Rew pointed out useful elements to improve the shot. The workshop proposed is a great way to crop it for a wallet size photo too.

Perhaps you could have simply desaturated the BG, instead of switching to black. Just a thought.

I wish we will see you active again soon.

Take care,
Robert
