[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the Purple Roller, and it's habits is almost like the other Rollers in South Africa. It is not so colourful as the Lilacbreasted Roller, but is still a very beautiful bird, and the colours come to life if in flight. This bird is larger than the Lilacbreasted Roller, and also not so active.
I took this photo one late afternoon at the same reserve as I took the one of the Lilacbreasted Roller.
If you look closely, you will see that this one was watching an insect on the ground, and I knew that, cause it flew up just after the photo, and caught a nice grasshopper.
Pitty it flew away with it's food, cause this would have been the kind of shot every photographer love. Enjoy the photo, and tell me what you think of the photo.
Have fun
Cheers
Jan

Nice capture, good color and detail. Unfortunate that the small branch passes through the back of the bird. Perhaps with patience you could clone it out.

Goeienaand Jan,

I've been looking at this bird and wondering why it would be necessary to clone out the little branch that passes throught the back of the bird. I love those branches as well.
Love the way you can capture their eyes. So very lively.
Please don't remove the branch, to me if feels protective in a way.
