[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These Red Hartebeest was taken at a waterhole in the Kgalagadi. They had a playful moment jumping in the water.

Red Hartebeest are always moving alone or in small herds. They are predominantly grazers and often seen in riverbeds with herds of Springbuck or Wildebeest. They are fast runners and, if approached by lions, are able to outrun them, therefore avoiding predation. Each herd consists of females, their offspring, a few subordinate males and a dominant territorial bull that does all the mating. Hartebeest drop their young in the dense cover away from the herd, several weeks before the onset of the rains. By the time the young are weaned and ready to start grazing, the first fresh grass is available. (South African National Parks.)

Thank you for your visit.

Regards,

BEn

Hi,

One can't help but get the feeling that they were actually enjoying frolicking in the water. You captured a beautiful and probably rare moment.
