[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Maybe I was more lucky than I thought to get a reasonable pic of this bird. If you love wild birds, you must see this bird catching bugs in flight. It is amazingly fast, almost never misses whe it strikes it's prey.
This bird species is just a visitor in South Africa during the summer months. Sometimes it does breed in South Africa.
Hope you like the photo, and feel free to crit or comment on it.
Regards
Jan

Hi Jan, hi neighbour ;-)
Our two birds are wonderful together ;-)
I love yours, I always wonder how a single bird can have so many colours.
Thanks and greetings

Wow! I am now very envious of your 500mm! It is clear and your background blur is very smooth. I also like the bird's body which, with feathers, is very soft and smooth contrasted against a big beak that is very much like all the thorns. It works very well for me.

hello jan!
this is so wonderful, great colors and sharpness.
very nice composition and DOF, i like it.

Hi Jan.

I keep telling my wife that to do a job properly you have to have the right tools. For me, this shot adds the next element - knowing how to use them properly.

I don't know a great deal about natural history / nature photography but I have seen much, much worse printed in Wildlife, Geographical and National Geographic magazines.

I cannot citicise this shot. I almost feel guilty wasting time commenting on it - but I couldn't pass over it without saying how much I like it.

Best wishes for 2008. Regards, Paul.

Another wonderful sharp image Jan, I'm impressed with that 500mm lens you have; Perhaps one day....
Stunning!

Jan,
EXCELLENT. The POV as well as the shallow DOF are perfect. I like how you have framed this and captured the detail of the thorny tree!
VERY well done,
Scott
