| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is Camfers Dam in Kimberley. It is home to thousands of Lesser Flamingoes and hundreds of the Greater species. Flamingoes only breed naturally in 3 locations in Africa (Namibia, Botswana and Tanzania) and although breading here has got up to the stage of laying eggs, no fledglings have been seen. The fact that the shoreline is so close to urban activity is largely the blame.
One of the local mining companies have created an island 200m from the shore, and everyone is now holding thumbs that they will start breeding here!
In ideal conditions, the population reach 35 000 flamigoes. |

Hello Johan!
Always impressive to see thousands of birds together. Specially when they lift off. And when they are pink , it is even more spectacular.
Tight composition with various layers and stages,.i.e some resting , some flying. makes a very lively composition.
Well captured.
Robert
