Jackal Murders
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I do quite a lot of photo-journalism from time to time, and a while ago I stumbled across this scene whilst traveling on a gravel road between Richmond and Murraysburg in the Northern Cape.
Jackal is a huge problem in the district and some farmers loose up to 400, 500 sheep lambs a year. If farming is your only income, then I guess I can understand their hate towards these animals.
This showcase of the succesfull hunt is apparently to deter other Jackal from entering that ground?? Weather it works or not, I'm not sure. The other day, approx 4 months later I drove past there again and they are still hanging there just as before. It seems like not even the crows are interested in making a meal of them.
It must be bad beign hated SO much. |

I see no rule about this journalistic approach, to each his or her own regarding the image.
On Trek N. dead animals cannot be posted.
Something we don't see across the pond, usually such terminations are done quietly and disposed of. Not sure what was the farmer's intent was regarding the two Jackals. Maybe, an interview with the farmer could have given you more info as to why he did this.
Good eye on finding this, well done on the composition
An interesting and slightly disturbing juxtaposition between the beautiful setting and deeply saturated sky, and the somewhat unpleasant sight of the two slaughtered animals.
I can understand the annoyance people feel for these creatures - they are, after all, competing with us for survival. Unfortunately for them, in the short term at least, humans are going to win.

Good documentary photo. Very crisp. The fenceline and windmill are good inclusions. TFS. karin
