Kimberley Museum

The historic Kimberley buildings have been brought back to life and feature shops and food outlets open to the public.

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Hole
From 1866 to 1914 50,000 miners dug the hole with picks and shovels, yielding 2,722 kg of diamonds. The Big Hole has a surface of 17 hectares (42 acres) and is 463 metres wide. It was excavated to a depth of 240 m but then partially infilled with debris reducing its depth to about 215 m; since then it has accumulated water to a depth of 40 m leaving 175 m visible. The underground Kimberly Mine was mined to a depth of 1097 metres.

There is currently an effort in progress to register the Big Holeas a World Heritage Site.

Hi Achim,
Very fine indoor shot of this museum, despite the poor light condition, the photo is nicely sharp, all the detailes are well seen and bright enough. Good ISO settings and use of light! Well done, my friend! TFS.

Hi Achim,

We have been standing here in this museum - fun to take a walk through times past....

And standing on the edge of that huge hole and thinking that all those people like ants were digging by hand, all next to each other on different levels - it was an amazing experience.

You managed a great picture with 1/13 in the dimmed light inside.

Thanks for reminding me,

Els

Hi Achim,
beautiful place and perfect lighting.Well composed.TFS.Necla.

Hello Achim

An interesting capture here with good use of light and nice sharp details. I think I might have moved back just a tad so the animal head was in full shot top right but overall an excellent post with interesting notes too.

TFS kind regards Helen

Hi Achim,
I like how you managed the DOF here - details are well captured throughout the inches of the frame. Thinking that you shot this in a museum where tripod is usually prohibited, I assume that you took this handheld. And, at 1/13 you did well, with good sharpness.

Oh, I felt the same with Helen about the animal's head but then you might have a reason doing so.

Ramdan.

A very interesting place and both are excellent pictures. I really like the lighting and mood of this one, and the colors and detail are very good. TFS

hi Achim

Good detail of the bar and interior without flash and you managed to include a good view at FL28mm (is your lens correctly displayed?). If you have no tripod, f/13 gives a good sharpness here.

The white balance is affected slightly.

tfs, bill

You could sell this as a postcard at the Kimberley Museum! A very familiar spot in the museum and well captured.
