I have always been interested in "urban abstract" shots, where you only reveal a small aspect of a larger structure, and the viewer has to guess what he or she is really looking at. I like the mysterious aspect of that. This is my first post of something like that on TL.

It is a piece of a wall at the entrance of the TOKARA wine cellar in the Western Cape town of Stellenbosch in South Africa, about 30 miles from Cape Town.

TOKARA is situated on the crest of the Helshoogte Pass, which makes for spectacular views of the Cape Flats, the oceans and of course Table Mountain. The farm produces innovative and distinctive wines under the TOKARA and ZONDERNAAM lables as well as excellent olive oils. It is owned by the banking tycoon G.T. Ferreira.

PP - For the first time ever, I decided to play around a bit with my new plaything, Photoshop Elements. I am still very inexperienced, but managed to tweak the contrast and colours a bit, and also added a border and signature!

Have a great day!

Hi Niel
Well spotted. The colours, textures and framing make this a good composition. The vines break the horizontal and vertical lines making it all the more intersting to the eye. Clever of you to have seen this opportunity. Good abstract composition. I've done a workshop for you, just to accentuate the great colours in these stones. Hope you like it. TFS.

Two words: Different, Stunning!

Hey, nice urban abstract effort! I really like this one. Nice colours and nice tight crop. Pity it's a bit small, but I'm sure the larger version has some nice detail on the bricks. Otherwise, very nice!

Awesome abstract - great subject with the vines overlaying the bricks making an interesting pattern. Great composition and sharpness.. nicely seen. I only wish the image was a bit larger..

I really like the minimalism here. The lines are crisp and clean and the colours good (although the WS does bring them out a little more -- if they're not quite the way you remember them, then try playing with colour saturation a little).
The size is a bit of a problem here -- you might try reducing the quality from 12 to about 9 or 10 so that you can post an image of 800 pixels wide. I have personally found that you can go down to a quality of 8 or even 7 before you start seeing any significant changes on the computer screen
All in all a superb posting -- I am looking forward to more

Hello Niel, interesting abstract here. I really like the orderly patterns of the slabs against more chaotic plant tendrils. I think you should have posted this larger, it's too small as it is. I think there could be a little more saturation but I think Martyn went a tad too far. I've done another WS - with a bit less saturation. I hope you don't mind and I hope you like it.
