Action shot of a kitesurer at Blouberg. The dynamics these guys get up to never ceases to amaze me. If you don't know anything about kitesurfing, think about crossing a surfer and a paraglider.
It is very difficult in this location to get good compositions that include proper light on the face. When the wind is up the sun is usually high. This shot was taken around midday. He has just turned and is ready to race out and launch himself into the air - my guess is 10 to 15m high.
I adjusted the levels, used 1.3 pixel sharpening at about 120% and fiddled with the shadow/light contrast. |

Hi Cecil,
well done, i know first hand how hard these guys are to capture.
They are fast accross the water, often you need a lot of zoom to bring them close enough for a shot, you have no idea what they are gonna do next and the lighting is completely out of your control.
Having said that, you have a well exposed shot, that is sharp with good tones. Overall i think its a pretty good composition and I particularly like the spray of water behind the surfer it gives a good sense of motion/speed.
Well done and thanks for posting, i must go out again sometime soon and see if I can't bag me a few more kitesurfers :)
Kind regards
Colin
hi cecil,
difficult to catch but you made it!!! only 2 points .... I am amazed about the response in TL on pictures that are difficult to catch, sometimes hardly possible to make ... thousand of cats and dogs are seen as "good shot - perfect - nice colors" ...
would like to give you more rewarding but I cannot ..
best regards frans
Hi Cecil..beautifully done...great composition..
