Another great character Mark. I think this may be a litle to bright though, especially on the fore head. I also think it will look good in B&W, for 2 reasons. 1 thsi will enhance the structure of his skin and thus bring forth more of his character. 2. The red colour of his face is further enhanced by the red (plum) colour of the womans caftan. Is is a nice potrait Mark buti can see ways of improving it further. I did a WS to show my idea.

A really great shot Mark, the detail and composition is excellent.
I like Zandra's workshop also,I think black and white may have been a better choice.
Excellent work,very well done.

Great portrait!
I specially love the fill light from the left... Awesome!
The PP is very nice too. The background character brings additional depth to the composition...
Mark this is excellent, really;-) hope you printed one copy for charl too;-)) i like the short DOF and the fact that you positionned him to the left of the frame...we can see another man in the BG, but it is not disturbing for me... great portrait Mark... how did you decide to go for E/C +1/3?
Dear Mark,
it is always very difficoult to make an image about the sad side of life. I like your photography, that it is based on a wide range from the nicely illuminated flute through the abstract (Reflection of Knowledge) to the drama. Drama is not just a frase, but a kind of arts. Yes, you can make poems from the real life's sorrow. That is called art, and the tool we can use to be ready to approach and solve things, very useful message. Well, the best poems are about sad or irritating moments of life or the fate of the mankind...
Congratulations, that you've reached the golden qualifications, I agree with those who found your pictures, notes, and critiques nice and useful, you are one of the best supportive member on this page.
Cheers,
Marcie

I liked Charl's portrait Mark..all said before me about the second person at the back (I liked it very much), composition and depth are great..I agree with Zandra for the bw veriosn because of another reason I recently thought of : we all have different color calibrations I guess..I recently found out on TL..so for portraits sometimes it may be stronger to convert to bw which is at least same on everyone's screen..
it is also good when there are fighting colors on the person and background...last himachali man I posted had similar case..even though it had blurred background, his clothes, grey beard, grey rocks at the back made the picture kind of flat..I like it more in BW now :)
thanks Mark..have a nice weekend..
(I am working a lot lately..have little time to see all your pictures..will be back :))

A great portrait... it looks as if you have caught him mid-sentence in a very interesting story. I like how the woman in the background is out of focus, but it looks like she is listening to the story as well. Very well done!
