I took this photo trying to improve my macro photography, it wasn't easy because it is mating season for these beetles and boy do they move around.
I hoped to capture the male looking for his mate or vice versa.
No tripod was used, I suppose you should use one in situations like this, anyway here is the picture, not exactly what I had hoped for.
Did a little work on it using PSPro.

It is very sharp. You have such a texture here. Good color contrast.

Well done. The "beast" is quite sharp and standing on this pink flowers it is really nice.

Very nice job you did here, My compliments for a very good macro, with nice colours. well doen

What do you complain about Mark? This is a pro shot! great colors and tones, excellent DOF and focus on your main subject, also used the rule of thirds,... Quite franky, I see no flaw! Unless the flaw is lack of confidence...;-) Well you really should not, see the excellent result. continue like that mark! great stuff!

magnifique couleur et composition, les détails sont superbes!

Most parts of the beetle are sharp and within DOF range, which is no mean feat, if it was moving around a lot. Nice colours and nicely set off against the background ;-)

Beautiful macro. I like to photograph insects and this was very well captured. Good job.

great shot. good colors, nice focus! chapeau!

I marked your comment useful, because if you know which beetle is male... well, maybe you will not earn money on the wall street with these facts, but it really fascinates me! The picture is beautiful, the meeting of black and the shades of rose is always strained for me. What I really enjoy, is the gesture of this small being. As you discribed in the title, he (!) shouts down from the balcony of a beautiful flower. Like the scene from Romeo and Juliette reversed version. You caught a moment, when this small creature became a real character. So, I start my favorites on this new site with this. More and more please!

great macro with every single texture properly enhanced.
colors are superb.
do you really need a two color frame?

Great shot, especially without a tripod. Everything is great with this shot, the beetle is sharp and colourful against the soft pink background. Wonderful macro.

Even without a tripod, it turned out very well. The colors are great and I like how you framed it. Do you know what type of beetles these are?

Superb macro, I like the DOF you choose, just enough to have correctly the beetles and to blur the rest of the picture. The colors are nice, too, very soft. And for an outside macro without tripod, it's very good !

Good shot Mark, given the lack of tripod I would say it is excellent. Yor composition is good and the petals look almost translucent, well done.

Wow, this really is a super-macro. Without a tripod, this is an excellent capture. The inset is sharp, and the textures of the petals are good. Very well done, Mark.

This is fantastic, all the more as you did not use a tripod! The texture of petals, and the sharpness of the insect with its quizzical gesture--this is a really fine macro.

You hoo...you down there! With its right "palm" beside its mouth, it called its mate, which probably somewhere down below, rummaging for nectar.

This scene, the male actor, balancing itself on a petal, with the rest of the flower, in reddish pink blur.

Macro photographing insect, by the time you have set it up, there wouldn't be anything to shoot at. You just have to learn to handhold Mark. Keep practising on 1/10 or lower until 1s. You need it.

Good luck Mark.

great photo...great title.Congratulations

Only one word..FANTASTIC...

This is an amazing macro, very well executed, with a perfect definition. I am note so sure about the frame though

beautiful macro Mark...I am only a little disturbed by the color of the outer frame..I think nothing should compete with this handsome beetle :)

tried my first ws here..not for the pic of course :) just for the frame...

Je ne sais plus quelle photographie choisir, tellement elles sont bonnes.
Excellente qualité et très bonne maîtrise photographique.
Félicitations Mark.
Bien amicalement.
I do not know any more which photography to choose, so much they are good. Excellent quality and very good photographic control. Congratulations Mark. Sincerely

Absolutely perfect macro shot, my two points and hats off for this one. Unbelievable we can count the hairs on the back of the bug and that's taken with a casual compact digital cam which doesn't focus very precisely : do you use add-on macro converter lens?

If I were MrNikon I would use this pic to convince potential buyers for Coolpix 3100.

A very artistic and nice photo!
* I like the colors and DOF.
* The motion blur seems as off-focus for the first while.
* Nice and suitable framing.
Great job, Mark!

Very beautiful macro. The harmony of colours, the composition and the definition are perfected.

Très belle macro bien réussie. L'harmonie des couleurs, la composition et la définition sont parfaits.

Well! If this is not perfection... Than it must be veeeeery close to it!
The delicate pink background looking as soft as silk, the insect perfectly focussed and on the right spot in the composition. You certainly made a master shot Mark.

Wonderfull super macro ! Fine pixels ! great quality and colors ! Congratulations !

A beautiful and amazingly sharp macro, Mark.
I like how this beetle is put in evidence with the flower petal and how you managed your DOF here. Just right balance and colors. Your title is part of the attraction with this shot. It's amazing how animals attitudes speak by themselves and how words to qualify it come so obviously. We speak for them, but they make the show! One of my favorite ones.

Wow Mark, for my this is super a macro, it seems that I have in front from my to this plant, I can perceive the texture of the petals perfectly. Do I fascinate illumination, would I like to know at what time you took this picture?? or the conditions of the illumination??.. or if it is inside a roofed garden, I have tried to take pictures of flowers and of insects but the natural light or the flash, it doesn't allow me to obtain the wanted result, I should say you that I am even learning how to use the functions of my digital camera. Returning to your picture, I am fascinated with this pearly effect of the petal where this posing the insect. The insect seems to be fixing his antenna to leave the best thing possible in your picture, although also the one seems to say ' hola' or to greet with his hand. The details of the color and shine of their shell are beautiful. Cordial greetings. *Ninfa Urania*

formidable composition, color, blur, clearness. I like this image. thank you to be there. -F-

Nice shot Mark.

Simply excellent macro, without comments!
Composition very well accomplished. congratulations!
David

The miracle of macro! :-)

A fabulous macro and to be hand held! You must have a very steady hand. It is amazing what DOF is apparent here! A truly interesting photo as well as the accompanying story.

What can I say... Just fantastic macro

Great macro of this beetle, would also be great without the beetle. I have found a tripod or bipod not much use, even though it would help, when chasing insects around. Donald

Hello there...
Fantastic capture... the colors scale is great, I love it.....
Congratulations for the composition and macro....
TFS, have a great day

Best regards from Brazil.....
