Wandering around the fish market of Dar es Salaam yesterday morning (need to dump my shoes in bleach later 'cos of the fish guts, scales, blood etc that got all over them) and there are some real characters. Half the people want to be photographed and half don't. Here's one of the guys that asked me to photograph him - with his mates in the BG..
Incidentally Dar es Salaam is an arabic name meaning 'harbour of peace'..

RAW, resized - that was it folks, this is the shot directly from the camera.

1/80, f5.6 and 18mm. ISO100 with +0.3EV

Hi David,
An excellent documentary picture. The man in the middle is excellent sharp and with the slightly blurred background he get the real focus on him. I'm not sure about the composition though, I would have cropped it in a different way to get rid of the half cut head of the man on the left. Anyway still and interesting picture Dave. Never knew the meaning of Dar es Salaam, but after your explanation it makes sense to me.

Hi David,
Very clear and well composed shot, excellent focus too. My only gripe would be that you've cut one of the guy's heads off to the left (although I'm guessing he is one of the ones who didn't want his photo taken, lol). Other than that the colours are nice and rich and the exposure is spot on.

TFS,
Scott.

Exact focus on his face David, Excellent image quality and details
I don't like this busy background, but overall is great
Best wishes
Alireza

Hi David,
I like the expression on the face of this man.
He means business!
The others around him are laughing because he was captured by your camera.
A nice spontaneous situation which you succeeded to present to us!
Great lighting and sharpness.
A fabulous presentation.

hi david

nice one you captured his emotion here...

great work.

keep it up

This worked well, I like the busy, journalistic feeling of the shot. As much as I'm not into black-and-white, I almost wonder if it would have worked well in this instance?

Hi David

A very good group portrait with excelelnt use of differential & selective focus. Superb sharpness & textural details on the fg man's face. Tfs!
