The Ez-Zeitouna mosque "Olive" is the second oldest mosque in North Africa after that of Okba Ibn Nafiî in Quairaouen. It was also home to one of the oldest universities in the world - It shares this status with the University Alquaraouyin of Fez (Morocco), the University of Cordoba and the University Alazhar of Cairo. The mosque was founded in 732 under the Umayyad dynasty, but the current architectural monument is dating back to the Aghlabid dynasty (in the year 864). The Minaret on the photo takes the composition of Almohad style, but it has been built only in 1894.
