[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi all,
Like all other high school graduates I today got my long awaited exam results.

This is a photo I took of a good friend whilst texting shortly before we got our results, and I think it is clear that there is some tension and stress in his face. It is my second reall attempt at a portrait (first uploaded on TL) so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The reason for the title is simple, and I think anyone who has had to wait for results will understand. There is that build up where one becomes more and more pessimistic about one's results and cannot see them coming out good, and it just feels like everything you worked for for the last few years is going to collapse.

I'll post another photo as a workshop, because I wanted to share the atmosphere but didn't really consider that photo to be worthy of an official upload.

Hope you like either or both,
Jako

Very nice crisp detail. You can feel the concentration and the stress in this shot.

Nicely done,

Alex

Great expression captured here! Very good composition! The young people like this man are waiting for their exam results and older people like me are waiting for the doctor's results! ,,,,Just kidding! Again this is a good closeup picture of your friend! Tfs! Michel

Nice shot Jako. Well cropped, moody. Maybe a bit more contrast...
Tomasz

hi jako!

genial enfoque, genial tono, todo crea una atmosfera de concentracions y abstracción genial.
Me gusta!

Excellent portrait with good skin tones. The tilt doesn't bother me. I didn't even notice it until I read your notes. Good texture details on this jumper. I hope you friend did well in his exams, also yourself. Well done on this fine portrait.

Hi Jako - This is a very good shot for someone who is only starting to take portraits. The reasons why I find it appealing are: it is a candid shot, it is in b&w and it is a profile with a good angle. Your friend's 'body language' is all there. (I wish him luck.) Good explanatory note, too. Thank you. Very well done and keep the good work up. - Cheers, Cordelia :)
PS: Good idea, too, to show the gymn in the WS photo where the results were handed out.

Very good portrait, Jako, and I don't think you need any advice from us...you are doing fine on your own. I like your very close crop and your positioning of your friend on the left like he was coming into the frame. Nice expression of anxiety captured on his face. Excellent!

P.S. I hope both you & your friends got good results!

A great portrait!
He has a good expression and the details in the pic are great! But what I like the best in the tonal range of B&W. Many people feel their portraits need more contrast. But this one is perfect as it is!
The light is fantastic as well!

great sensual portrait.
Karl

Well, well... not only is this a perfect shot (I'll explain in a moment) but it's also a nice catch of a strapping young man. ;) No, no- all jokes.

The photo... perfect, yes I think it is possible. Here's why!

1. That heavily blurred background really brings out all the fine details of his face.
2. The details- look at his eyes and how well we can make out the fine seperations of his thick eye-lashes. The hair, and how we can notice that certain parts are gelled/wet. You can even see the tiny pores on his face. (usually a bad attribute (imo), but I like it in this shot- doesn't take away from the model!)
3. The use of space- so important to me, and you composed it perfectly here.

Would a frame have been a good idea? I can't decide.

Well done Jako- although by now that goes unsaid.

Biance.
