[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi all,

I don't post too much lately so when I finished this shot I thought I'd upload it. It was inspired about two months ago by a song called 'digital bath' by Deftones, when I wasn't particularly happy. I'm not usually a big fan of lyrics in notes but I'll put them at the end of this one.

To get this I took appart a large picture frame (breaking the glass and destroying the picture in the process). I propped what was left of the glass upright, and sprayed it with some water. To get the right amount took some trial and error. Then I set up the camera on a tripod in front of the glass on self timer and a long exposure, and fired a flash manually from wherever I wanted. The idea was to have sharp focus on the drops and my face out of focus. It took about 23 shots in the end.

PP- Desaturated with channel mixer, contrast adjustments, USM, frame.

The lyrics in case they will make the shot make more sense-

you move like I want to
to see like your eyes do
we are downstairs where
no one can see
new life break away
tonight I feel like more
tonight I
you make the water warm
you taste foreign
and I know you can see
the cord break away
cause tonight I feel like more
tonight I feel like more
tonight I feel
feel like more
you breathed
then you stopped
I breathed then dried you off
and tonight
I feel like more
tonight

It's kind of a mellow emo metal song.
Hope you like it (if i haven't bored you to sleep yet),
Jako

Good composition! the amount of the focus on your face is great!

Always creative & original, Jako. I do miss your regular post but I understand you are quite busy with school these day. Very nice experiment but I am a bit bother by the big spot of black on your nose on the right; almost look like you have a big scab. Otherwise, I like the concept, the water on the glass (sorry to hear you destroyed the picture!) and the light on the rest of your face. Might have been better with your mouth closed but I may be just nit-picky for the sake of writing something. Well done!

Hey long time no critique Jako :)

Very effective and creative shot. It looks like a photoshop filter :)

The B+W definitely adds to the feel of the shot.

good job.

Bonjour.
Une très bonne idée.
La photo est à la fois floue mais suffisament nette pour voir le visage.
Beau travail !

Another creative approach to photography, and the final output is superb (even if a little disturbing on a psychological level!). I agree with Suzanne that the large shadow near the nose adds an element of distraction, but that apart the focus on the water drops and the blurred face work really well. Keep experimenting, because everytime you do you come out with a cracking picture!
Thanks for sharing
Mark

Ah, I can't believe I haven't stopped by your portfolio in a while Jako! This is one of the greats, superb idea behind the shot... it's gorgeous.

Not to be overly sentimental, but the image seems to portray the soul when one is sad, it's more than tears... much like in the image, it looks as if your entire body is in tears. Too much? I hope not! :P

Great, great, great! You have a real touch for black and white. I'm going to have to remove a photo from my favourites and add this one in, it's just too... just too, well I'll leave it at that.

It's great. You're great! I beg of you, become a photographer, you have stunning talent. Honest to God.

Biance.

From a ligthing perspective, I wish you had two sources to avoid the shadow on the right side of your nose. Otherwise, a very creative shot, the dark background is excellent, and the effect of the water in the foreground, kind of creepy. I like it!

well, about six seven months ago, i tried this technique myself, though for shooting objects rather than myself.. theres a photo in my gallery called 'spanners'.. check it out..

this is, without doubt, a very original and innovative, though cumbersome idea for a portrait.. but the final results make it worthy!

you look like a muscle man in this photo, maybe its the lighting..

good work!

Great job with the glass filter. Nice to see your portrait. I like the lighting.

Hi Jako,
Very creative experiment, the effort payed well, good composition and effect. well done!!

Hi Jako! What a lovely composition with a sexy model. The expression and pose is alluring. You could probably do this in one of the Photoshop filters but this is much more realistic and rewarding specially when you see the result of your work.
TFS and keep posting!
Freddie :)
