[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Gentoo Penguin with two chicks on the Antarctic Peninsula. It is the norm for Gentoos to have two chicks at a time.
In this photo the chicks are fighting over who gets the next regurgitated serving of food first without leaving the warm body contact of the parent penguin.
The background are snow covered mountains.
There is some blur of the parent penguin head due to my cold fingers and me not dialing in the right exposure time. Oops.

Wonderful photo Karin! I love the textures on the birds as well as the rich blue background. Just a great all around shot at just the right angle and POV, great DOF as well throwing the background out of focus, but allowing enough focus to give some context.

How cold was it when you took the photo?

Superb! Another excellent shot! Beautifully captured, this is a cute photo of Penguin parenthood. Good POV too. Just one little crit... the parent's head is slightly out of focus. Maybe DOF was slightly out but nonetheless a superb composition. Well done!

Boy this is a stunning capture! So you made a journet to the Antartic! Excellent capture, of thhis penguin and chicks fine colour contrast although the head of the pimguin isn't fully sharp. Perfect POV you use f/27 what type of lens you need and did you used a tripod? Anyway an outstanding posting my dear friend!

A fantastic warm/cold picture. What an exciting place to visit and to witness a moment like this one - I think you did great and on moments like this you probably don't use a tripod, but I don't see all too disturbing blurs on papa pinguin's head.

Bonjour Karin,
No wonder I've chosen this one, for the cute moment and the feeling of optimism it conveys. Besides a great birdwatching shot, it's also a very good compo with beautiful colors. Just a minor nit: If mother Gentoo Penguin knew you were at 1/90 seconds, she would have avoided to move her head during the shutter release... but minor considering the beauty of the scene. A fav.
By the way, your album is beautiful. It's full of fresh air!

Hi Karin! This is a fabulous shot of the adult and wee ones...I don't think I have ever seen that penguins are feathered! LOL...They always seemed to me that they were rubbery...what a fool I have been. But they are birds, aren't they? OF COURSE FEATHERS MAKE SENSE! Unless it's really just down, and not feathers? Now I have to google this.... Thanks for enlightening me after ALL THESE YEARS!
