We are in Yankee Harbour, Antarctic Penninsula. Yankee Harbour was a former American whaling station not so long ago. It is cold and very very windy today. Winds are over 100 km/hr. These gentoo penguin chicks are doing the best they can to stay warm on their own as they no longer fit underneath their parents.

Hello Karin such a cute shot good close composition details look fine and nice light tfs rgds Necip.

Another beautiful shot Karin. I love the shallow DOF with the adult penguin slightly out of focus in the bg. Great capture.

Poor little things! Life must be challenging when you're cold from the very start ... funny to think that the sea must be warm for them by comparison to those antarctic winds!
Another beautiful capture, as they always are.

hi karin, pretty shot, beautiful moment you captured, i love the colors and depth of field, take care, thanks scott

Hi Karin
Great presentation once again with the shallow depth of field that
puts all the attention on the two so cute subjects. Bravo! I was just
wondering how close you can get to capture a shot like this?

Paul

funny just got the favourite alert this afternoon (Friday)

I like the way you show this young funny creatures.
Showing the parent good out of focus helps to understand what is going on.
The title fits the photo very well
Great shot

Hi Karin,

Two cute chicks for sure! They are a bit off on sharpness though. At the end of the lense, you can best use a more narrow aperture if your shutter speed would allow. Here you have 1/750, where you could have used 1/320 at 300mm. That would have given you an aperture of f/9 - f/11. A sharper shot would be the result. You would have a bit more depth of focus, but the blurring of the background is something you can easily do in Photoshop.
I added a workshop, just to work a bit on the sharpness and haze on the shot. Hope you like it! Still a nice shot with those two freezing penguin chicks :-).

Greetings,
Dennis

Love penguins! I can't wait for them to arrive at the Calgary Zoo. Aweosme image Karin. The two little ones seem to be doing a good job here. They just look cute hugging each other for protection. Good natural colours and fine details in the subjects. I like this image. Its heartwarming. Thanks Karin.

Hello Karin,
Oh my dear, I guess they have to snuggle to keep warm!
And these guys have a fine fluffy feather coat to survive under harsh conditions...
Well captured moment, a cute situation!
Greetings,

Hi Karin, this is a sweet moment of those 2 youngsters.
The ws is good, it makes the image sharper.
Good close-up.
Maybe the image would gain if the focus was shallower to blur more the adult penguin or greater to make them all in focus. I don't know, just an idea.

Great catch and this must have been a fantastic trip!
I would like to make one like that one day.

Regards, Yan :)
