Founded by legendary Norwegian Captain Anton Larse in 1904, Grytviken was the first whaling station in Antarctica waters. There is a trail around the station leading to its three key sites; the manager’s house, the church and the graveyard. Winding your way around the snoring elephant seals and errant king penguins, it is possible to pay your respects to Sir Ernest Shackleton and others at the graveyard and visit the Whaler’s Church.
The big tanks in the background were used to boil whale’s parts, to obtain oil.
Walking around this place is a potential hazard, but fun when you start discovering forgotten things, such as this small whaler.

PS was cropping and curve adjustment + framing.

Comments and critiques are very welcome.

Wellington

Abraço a todos e aguardo as críticas.

Interesting to see the remnets of the past. The metal sheeting of the whale boat is really in disrepair. Well captured and composed - like the rich colors of the tanks.

Thanks for the recent visit.

Belo tiro, grande compo!
Parabens.

Sergio

Interesting PP work Wellington which has emphasized the colours nicely. Well composed and fine detail,
David

When I see these old abandoned vessels, houses, etc., I can't help but wonder what souls inhabited them. I used to refinished old clocks and furniture and it was fun bringing them back to life, so to speak.

Interesting shot and photos in general. Nice range of subjects.

Richard
