Sorry for not putting a name on this one , looks like a dragonfly though , he he ,it was fun to watch it land on and take off from this very specific spot, well that was until i figured that out , when i spotted it on that twig the very first time i went for it zooming in on it but there it went ,ok , not this time alright but i had not gone very far when it returned to this exact spot , i decided to give it another go ,yes i missed the first attempt and a few more , since it didn't stay so long each time yet it came back every few seconds right there , strange habit, anyway i prepared the shot ( focus , F and speed ) and there it is the only one i got on my last attempt, hum, i think it's ok .
Iso 100 , f/4.5 1/160 , cropped this to make a more panoramic vertical format, contrast added, sharpened , framed,
Thanks for looking and reviewing this photo,
Carol

Carol I know what you mean trying to catch a shot of one of these, really have to watch the pattern they use.
I have not seen a pattern on the wings like that here (that I know of)
Good macro and detail on your subject, DOF turned out well.
I did a workshop only because my monitor seemed to show a slight blue hue to the bg wood, hope you don't mind.

Wayne

Hi Carol,
An amazing capture of this golden dragonfly!
Here you made great use of shallow DOF!
Great details on the head and the marvelous wings which seem to be made of lace!
I like the diagonal branch with marvelous light green leaves and the blurred BG.
Very neat presentation.
Best regards,

Francis Xavier

hi Carol,
beautiful..., extraordinary delicate structure of wings weighty
best regards

Ah, your persistance paid off my friend. Nice composition with the stem of the plant going at a partial diagonal ... the dragon fly is well placed within the shot. Nice and sharp on the body and on the wings .. where it counts. Those wings .. wow, what intricate detail! Nature is truly amazing isn't it?
Great shot Carol.
Looking forward to seeing some of the weekend hike :)
Hope all is well amigo .. I'm trying to stay warm here!

Hi Carol!

Nice to see you here again! This is a very well thought out and nicely exposed shot of this bronze Dragon fly and from the looks of things you enjoyed this experience. I photograph a lot of Dragons here in Brunei and they are very frustrating to capture sometimes but chances are they always come back to the same spot and you have to work your way closer to them each time. It is worth the patience though and as this shot demonstrates the results are very gratifying. The sharpness is excellent here and the colours look very natural. The climber in the BG actually enhances the shot with its S-shaped path and there is good exposure control of the whole scene. Well done and thanks for your informative notes also. Great work!

regards,

Dilshan

Hi, Carol -
I like the long portrait format to compliment the orientation of the twig and the dragonfly's long body. You were patient to make all of those attempts to get this shot - the fine details of the intricate wings are nice and sharp. Very nicely done.

hi carol
that what i call sharpness...great picture

Oh yes sir ! -)
Like your PP work : good composition by cropping.
Fine detail in the wings, chest, ...

A " maybe " :
did you play with " brightness " ?
I think it could use a " tad " more
( love that word - picked it up from you, normally I would use " a bit " hihi )
making the whole photo more vivid.

TFS Carol
See you later
