Taken yesterday at Jerudong beach during, yet another, one of my routine sunset shoots.

For this, I chose to smoothen the water by going for a reasonably slow speed but trying to maintain some detail on the rock and, most importantly, at the same time, also trying to avoid a totally washed-out horizon. So I went for the 3-stop ND Hard Grad filter to control the huge contrast. The filter, on the other hand, has turned the cloud very dramatic, brings out its texture as well as showing its layers.

Just before I pressed the shutter button, I saw a man slowly walking towards the end of the rock. Initially, I was pretty upset that he could ruin my shot as I didn’t expect any fill-in other than the tree. But then, I thought he could actually add extra relevance to the shot. So the moment he stopped and stood, I quickly fired and hoped that he would be still. And he was... at least long enough for me to freeze him in my over-3-second shot!

Meanwhile, not far down, from where I captured this, is a concrete boat launching facility used by the local fishermen. You can imagine how the smell was like... very fishy!

After few more shots of different compositions, I then headed straight home with body sticky from the sea breeze and my black sleeveless t-shirt stink of rotten shrimps! But, boy oh boy, was it worth it!

Hi Shahminan,

My friend, in my opinion this is a work of art that rivals paintings,or any other art style. This is beautiful. Congrats on a great job.

Hi Shahminan

Nice shot overall. I really like the person in the shot as it adds scale and depth. Looks like you did a nice job controlling the light range with the Lee grad. I own a bunch of Lee grads to and really like them. Good work!

Hi Shahminan,
Calm and peaceful unset composition, the vertical positioning was a good choise, especially the ratios of land and sky. It was a creative idea to include the lonely man and the single tree as well, it makes the image more lively. Awsome tones, very well done!
I really like your gallery , beautiful images. Keep up this great work!
Greetings,
Kristof

Hi Shahminan,

What a warm colors on this photo!
Nice composition. I like the dramatic sky.
Well done!

Regards, Marga

Superb colours and a great composition, especially with the silhouettes of the man and tree. I'd possibly be tempted to crop some of the darker sky out, as I'm not sure it adds a great deal to the overall picture.
Thanks for sharing
Mark

Great composition Shaminan. One can feel the minuteness of us human beings in front of nature. The dramatic sky and the receding horizon are establishing the diminutive stature of the man there even more emphatically. TFS
