Shot yesterday (Saturday) just a few minutes after sunset.

Mainly due to family commitment, I normally do my water village shooting in the morning - never late in the day. Yesterday, however, after wandering around looking for good spots and viewing the village from across the river, I decided to make a different approach this time around. So I quickly hopped onto one, among hundreds, of the water taxi and make a quick dash across the river.

I asked the 'taxi driver' (or 'Penambang' in local term) to slow down so that I could quickly but carefully choose a strategic boat jetty with a reasonably good vantage point. I was very fortunate as most main jetty have been replaced with concrete stilt rather than the old and slightly wobbly wooden boat landing.

Exhaling a sigh of relief, (well, it's always a concern to be around the deep water when carrying my priceless gadgets!), stepped onto the jetty, I was ready to fire! After metering the water and the sky at several points, the contrast given was about 2 stops - so 0.6 ND Grad hard filter was the order of the day.

I'm a fervent follower of the rule of third but really can't believe that I forgot to apply the rule in this shot! But, at least, I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Turning in all four wind directions, I took several shot from the jetty..... and, shot at speed of 25 seconds, here is one them. A close-up houses in the water village during sunset.....

...... hope everyone had a good weekend!

Hello Shahminan,

A very well used pov with the textured, wooden pier travelling quickly into the shot.
The soft, evening light creates a peaceful ambience.

You talk about the rules - I would definitely have cropped the sky, which serves no purpose That would have created a greater interest in the focal point and improved composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

beautiful mood captured here :)
love the colors and tones
the water is beautiful from the long exposure

The trouble you went to to get this shot was well worth it. It is lovely. I think you could have your rule of thirds by cropping off some of the foreground. You still get the benefit of the walkway leading to the houses and it allows more focus to be placed on the village and sky.

Hi Shahminan:
very good POV.
beautiful perspective.
good job.
