[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Found this guy in our backyard during a macro seeking day today with my reverse mounted 50mm 1.8D lens. I called this Precious because this bug has an amazing multi-coloured paint job like "dust" on its body and it reminds me of those metalic paint jobs on exotic cars. The Flash was used here as I was using an F stop of 16 and there was not enough natural light to capture this guy and I set it manually. ISO 200 was employed to keep noise to a minimal level and slight contrast and sharpening was applied in Picasa 3. Then I cropped and resized this image for posting onto TL. Any comments/critiques welcome....

cheers,

dilshan74

Hello Dilshan,
The f/16 and 1/125 sec settings appear optimum. A very attractive image of what appears to be a rhinoceros beetle. It is exquisitely composed. Yes indeed the exoskeleton has the most textured quality - maybe some algae or fungi have grown atop its back? The brushlike effect of the bg looks great. Regards.
