[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Well....this is an unexpected find as I went for an outing with my friend, Anan (aka Cybermeritam on TL) to the water village. We went there before sunset and had an awesome time shooting mud skippers, grey herons and monkeys as it was low-tide. The light began to fade and we were about to call it a day. Then, out of a last minute attempt to get a nocturnal shot, I just borrowed his "BIGMA" again and put on the SB800 speed light to try and shoot hungry herons in the fading light. Suddenly I heard this loud bird call. I knew instantly what it was and could see a fast moving shape of a bird settle on a high tree branch. It was nearly impossible to see but somehow I knew..I cranked up the ISO to 400 and dialed in maximum flash power for this one time shot of a kingfisher that /i have never been able to photograph before. I did not have a tripod and the camera just could not lock focus at f/6.3 maximum aperture. So i grabbed the focus ring and slowly focused on the white chest as this was the only bit of reflected light I could see. Finally I squeezed the trigger and flash! This was the result. I was quite happy with the capture but had to run it through Neatimage to remove some of the noise and sharpen image. I cropped and resized for upload. I am glad I waited.....its never too late.

Congratulations on this great capture of the Kingfisher. Yes, the handy 500mm and sb-800 was fortuitous for this fine catch.

dear Dilshan Mahdi,
a beautiful shot of the common Indian kingfisher,
its blue/green wings are excellent,
a pretty little bird but its technique of fishing is amazing,
maybe it looks watching the water surface and waiting the time to catch the fish.

Nice shot! The flash looks like it has illuminated everything beautifully, while the shallow DOF keeps our eyes focused on the key features. Good job with the off-centered composition here too. It all looks so clear and sharp. Well done.

Great capture of this bird - the colouring came out very well, it's an unusual blue. I like the composition and the soft background.
