Lasting through ages

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Originally this was a shot taken in front of the entrance to Angkor Thom, apparently the biggest amalgamation of temples in Angkor.
The Chinese Chou Ta-Kuan once wrote:' The townwall is certainly more than 5 miles long, it has 5 gates with double portals each. Outside a river extends a wide moat whereover only mighty causeways lead their way to the entrance. 54 godlike creatures made out of stone, so tall and terrifying like lords of war flank the way.'
I can tell you, even these words are more than 800 years old you feel nearly the same when you enter Angkor Thom.
I had serious problems to create a good POV to reproduce that enormous row of stone giants with only a 18mm lense, so I decided to make the best out of it.
With my pp I wanted to underline the age of that giants (although they are replicas, beacuse the original ones were destroyed or stolen) by creating an effect of metaphorical timeshift from past to future. The past is certain but fades away with the ongoing of time and the future is still uncertain. Only the now is sharp and full of life and colour.
Technical notes:
First I copied the whole layer and desaturated one. On that B/W one I did some corrections in contrast and levels. Afterwards I cut out the 2nd stone giant so the first layer (coloured) peaks through. Last on the B/W layer I added a radial blur with center on the coloured stone giant.
On the coloured layer I did the levels and expanded the saturation. Afterwards I added 2 new layers (Darken, GaußBlur 10pt, 20% opacity and Lighten GaußBlur 6pt, 30%opacity).
After rejoining layers a GUSM and frame - done.
Hope you enjoy

HelloGunnar,
Beau travail. J'aime beaucoup l'effet donné par le flou du premier plan et de l'arrière plan.
Le w&b partiel est bienvenu ici.
---------------------
Beautiful work. I like much the effect given by the blur of the foreground and the background. The partial w&b is welcome here.
Stéphane
I think you have chosen well to show the main subject in colour and the remainder in black and whte, but the zoom effect is a little difficult to look at! With this type of travel shot I would prefer to see just a normal image. (just my point of view)
Andrew
Hi Gunnar,
