Ta Prohm temple in Cambodia - and probably the most photographed tree in the country.

I posted another image of this tree, from a slightly different viewpoint, here, taken in January 2007.

"Ta Prohm is a temple at Angkor, Cambodia, built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Located approximately one kilometre east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray near Tonle Bati, it was built by King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike most of the other Angkor temples, Ta Prohm has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors." {wikipedia}

The light here was a bit of a nightmare, areas of dark shadow mixed with glaring sunlight.

Shot in RAW. Cropped, jpegged, converted to sepia, levels adjusted, slight dodging/burning, framed, resized, sharpened. Vignetting was done at some point in the process.

ISO 320, f6.3, 1/400

Hi Mr. KA,

How are you? I like the tones applied here, it makes your image strong and well composed. As you said a bit problem with the lights but you still manage to get a very good result.

Well done!

My Regards,

Buddy

hi richard.
the choice of b/w has accentuated the weirdness of this tree. you have balanced the light very well under the cicumstances.
i love the smoothness of the sky against the texture of the tree.
nicely done.
Brian

Nice job - good composition and POV, nice crisp sharp details and good use of the gradient. Great subject, don't you think?

All you need is a Lara Croft figure ...

Hmmmm, reminds me of Trampas in a way! LOVE thi sepia! Reminds me of a HUGE HAND...reaching down... yet another quality shot posted here and it's just a shame that you have to do that. I mean really, we shouldn't muddy up TL waters with nice pics...

I see your little escape to Cambodia was put to fabulous advantage! (Yeah - my language goes down after a few beers ;))
I really like the textures and the strong contrasts between light and shadow. The darkness of the doorway gives it a great air of numinous mystery

I may have commented on the previous one Richard but the conversion here works even better. An excellent POV and the details have come up nicely with the PP. Well done,
Dave

I have seen images of these trees before but never in sepia. The colour here is great and the choice of sepia highlights the detail of the trees extremely well. Very impressive!
