I wanted originally to title it Wat's so strange about Angkor? but then the orange flavor dominates the view, so I changed it. Wat do you think? In late afternoon on 3rd day, we returned to Angkor Wat temple for another sunset. When monks show up, it always stirs interest because the orange robes in strong light is striking to the faded grey of the temple stones. So when these young monks were walking away, I panicked for a fast shot. Here they were walking under the later afternoon sun, just before entering the temple proper. I mostly prefer not to have people in pose because they tend to be stiff and nervous. But for this day, monks are really hard to come by, so I could not miss even shooting the back of their orange robes. I learn that you can become a monk without shaving your head and return to normal life after 3 years. One thing is interesting : do they carry wallets? Their food is from donation, so all they have as a monk will be a robe, slippers and daily given food. Interesting way of life especially in regions like Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Mynamar.

Angkor Wat is one of the best ruins temple by UN World Heritage in 1992 and draws thousands of visitors per day on a peak season. I had been wanting to come here since years ago, so now I finally made it, I am happy:) Thank you for viewing.

Hi Bill,
Very interesting subject. The orange robes really do catch the eye against the grey temple. The shadows in the doorway also add good depth to the shot and highlight the carvings in the stone.

Matt

Hi Bill,
I just noticed that you have a new camera. Congratulations. I have heard many good things about your new toy. Indeed there is a rush of excitement when photographers see a throng of brightly clad monks enetering a fabled temple. The composition is flawless, lighting appears to be slightly challenging but you nailed it. My complements...Danilo

Excellent light and contrast, great view created by the light. Nice PP work

Hi Bill,
This picture brings back good memories of Angkor Wat. A fine capture, but a bit too bright in my opinion and also have the impression is lackt a bit of sharpness. Anyway still a fine image of this wonderful place on earth.

Bill, just like you I have been wanting to visit Cambodia for a long time. I was still working and I had an architectural student apprentice whose parents are from Cambodia and we discuss the Cambodian life and architecture a lot. I like your title and I smiled to myself on your sentence, " I panicked for a fast shot." I know that feeling as when I travel and I was part of a group, I always panic for a fast shot :)

Good pp work highlighting the orange against B&W. Its certainly a life of faith and trust that seems to be rewarded by the local people. TFS
