| Takeo temple is located on the east of Angkor Thom. It is one of the first temples, which were built out of sandstone. It is atop a laterite base with 122 meters and 106 meters. It rises into the sky about 22 meters. The temple was built from the late 10th to early 12th centuries by King Jayavarman V (968-1001) and Suryavarman I (1002-1050).The construction was firstly begun around the year 975.The construction of this temple was never completed. After the death of Jayavaraman V in AD 1001, a violent usurpation shook the kingdom of Angkor; so work on the temple ceased for the first time. During the reign of King Suryavaraman I, the construction started again but later it was abandoned uncompleted. However, because of absence of decoration, the temple became an impressively unique temple. And now Takeo Temple is an important tourist attraction in Angkor region. |
