"I'd like to teach the world to sing...in perfect harmony..."

So went the song from a Coke advert many years ago.

Well, here in Cambodia, was a touch of that harmony, perhaps. But in this case i'm not sure it's a good thing.

Three little Cambodian kids and an old drunken man. He with an empty can of western beer at his feet and two of the kids slurping from cans of Coke. Maybe kids that age shouldn't be drinking it - but then again I'm sure they don't have many luxuries or treats in their lives. I'm not making a judgement either way, just posting a photo and rambling a little.

This was taken in Bar Street, Siem Reap. The kids were watching as a group of their peers surrounded a passing tourist, begging for a few dollars. It's a sad situation - if you pause even slightly when handing out a donation. you get mobbed. Quickly handing out a few dollars then walking away sounds heartless, but the alternative can be getting surrounded by 20 kids all pawing, pleading, grabbing, crying...it can be heartbreaking.

Again, i don't know the right or wrong way - maybe there isn't one, we each make our own judgements at the time.

Shot in RAW, converted pp, partial desaturation, cropped, resized and sharpened.

Hi Richard!

Nice black and white picture, the text in intersted for me. Itīs funny that you had choosen the coke of cans in colored.

Diana

Hi Richard,

I like your almost complete desaturation, highlighting the cans.

Interesting subject matter, i like it.

Cheers for sharing big yin.

Take it easy.

Colin

i suppose the universal language or communication tools will be coke even in the remote area. well saturation work.

Richard,
I like this shot, it has a touch of melodrama and a good sense of human nature. The coke can represents a "taste" of a modernized world and the people represent a third world country. I do believe that every human MUST has some luxuries. Coke doesn't seem that much of a luxury to me but neither does making payments on my automobile! In reality you have captured the essence of "want"(coke) and need (beer) very well. I like the B&W with selective color choice here because it emphasizes what you were trying to focus on. I also think the composition of the main subjects are well portrayed, off-centered. Very good image Richard, a slice of time in a real world. BTW...if I am not mistaken, the jingle was from my FAVORITE soft drink- Pepsi!
Scott

Great pic originally but your PP work with the Coke cans is inspirational, nice one,

Hello Richard !

A very strong image. I love it . ( I could not right from the office before )(^_^). Indeed it is rather strange how people with very few money , do spend the little they have in useless in poor value items such as colas , cigarettes, booze, junk food, etc...

It is no surprise to see the richest companies in the world are actually selling those products. Even more surprisingly, todays hospitals are often loaded with people who consumed too much of the above mentioned products.

Love the partial desaturation here too . Wise and effective composition.
Bravo!
Robert
