[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken in the Paper Tiger Bar, Bar Street, Siem Reap.

I think this is a very cool town. Despite the poverty and hardship suffered by the locals, they welcome tourists with smiles, handshakes and open arms. They treat you as friends and are as interested in visitors as we are in them and their history and culture. It is not an exaggeration for me to say I love Cambodia.

This barmaid was a star - calling customers in, chatting and joking with semi-drunk tourists, ensuring people were having a good time.

I sat there with my camera and tried to capture some of the atmosphere of the place. Lighting was awful - ISO up at 800, 1/13 shutterspeed, handheld.

I know there is blur and that the image isn't perfect, but I'd had more than a couple of the local beers so is probably an accurate reflection of what I was seeing at the time! :-)

Plus, for me, this captures much of the essence of the town - a great memory.

Image ran through neatimage and resized/sharpened and a frame added before posting. Was shot in b/w, so no conversion pp.

Hi Richard:
An excellent B&W real life capture...
actually the blur is showing action and adds life to this:)
Thanks for the notes!
Regards
David

I rather like the blur Richard, it shows action and a naturalness to the pic, instead of a posed pic. Love the BW also, works best for people images I think. I've started taping paper napkins to my flash in low light situations, because it bounces off just enough light to make the image nice, without the shocking flash images with a regular pop up flash. Try it!

Great note Richard, especially your self assessment of what you might have been seeing :)
Considering the lighting, the slight blur actually works with the location of this photo.

Hi Richard. Good creative work in B&W. Excellent note about this place where friends have spoken of it highly. Real humans in this sort of environment, so much history and pain but still aspiration of a happy life. Good work. Murray.
