Aside from Angkor Wat itself, The Bayon is another impressive Temple in this region of Cambodia.

"The Bayon is a well-known and richly decorated Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th century or early 13th century as the official state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the centre of Jayavarman's capital, Angkor Thom. Following Jayavarman's death, it was modified and augmented by later Hindu and Theravada Buddhist kings in accordance with their own religious preferences. The Bayon's most distinctive feature is the multitude of serene and massive stone faces on the many towers which jut out from the upper terrace and cluster around its central peak.[3] The temple is known also for two impressive sets of bas-reliefs, which present an unusual combination of mythological, historical, and mundane scenes. The main current conservatory body, the JSA, has described the temple as "the most striking expression of the 'baroque' style" of Khmer architecture, as contrasted with the 'classical' style of Angkor Wat."

Shot on the 400D as I took two camera bodies to reduce the frequency of lens-changing. Shot in RAW, converted to b/w, slight crop, horizontal flip, jpegged, frame added, some brightness/contrast adjustment and slight fiddling with blue and red tones.

This must be coincidence....one minute behind a PC in the hotel and you are uploading a perfct B&W image of the Bayon. The White-black frame gives the image a certain kind of depth. Wonderfull done. Boy I'm jalouse you have the time to upload.
Cheerz from BKK!
Hans

Howdy Richard! Original detail. Original composition. Very good POV. Cheers!

I can't believe that we are gallery neighbours today! Halfway 'round the world!
Too cool!

Superb composition and fabulous textures. I like the conversion here and the bokeh is perfect: it gives a real three-dimensional effect

What a great look Richard. Often we have seen this same "statue" from the front. I really like this alternative side.
Great choice to convert to b/w.
Love the sharpness and contrast.

Cheers,
Anneke

Hi richard
Really like the use of Macro here. We have no idea how big this thing is from the posted image and that is ok. Great use of DOF on the background.

If you have time attach a WS of this image in color. I like the B & W and think you were right in converting but I have the feeling the color image has great texture on the stones.

Briliant composition:))) I like just this part of profile and blurred background - very good work:)))
Greetings - Tom

Magnificent shot. Sharpness, DOF, bokeh, etc.

There really is no doubt it's a spectacular and breathtaking location, and cliched or not, it's a photographer's dream location. The challenge of Angkor Wat is bringing out the photographer that you have become, so it's one to relish!

Congratulations again

Congratulations on the very very bold frame, Richard! This is a milestone for people who don't like too much border. I salute you on that! What a personal website can do to a person. You're really moving forward :)
TFS,
Freddie :)

I like this very nice close up! Excellent detail! Also the b&w is very nice here. A very informative note as well. Thanks!

Impressive detail and very good BW treatment.

Hi Richard. A niece and her fiance sent me some of the photos they took while touring through Asia. I must try some conversions for them because the colours are very washed out. Nicely composed and well converted with some quite well pronounced detail.

Dave

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Blue Train’. I will have to have a look at the original to see if I could have cropped anymore.

PS I have just emaild you and received that silly auto response message :). The email is about CS2 and montages.

Hello Richard from Richard,

A wonderfully stark image and interesting perspective on this ancient statute. It reminds me of a sculpt in a huge garden above the Pitti Palazzo in Florence, Italy, except that that sculpt is a modern piece made to look old.

If you'd like, I can email that to you: pagliaccio_500@hotmail.com

Hi Richard

I like the the compositions here... sharop and DOF is desirable...

It took me a minute to figure out that I was seeing a nose and lips! Very nice BW shot here Richard. Reminds me somewhat of Koh (Wenqing) and his work! Very nice DOF to the shot!

Hello Richard
This is an exceptional shot. Great texture in the stone face and very nice soft BG. Vertical composition with tight crop on the face works very well. The only thing that might improve the image for me would be to tone down/soften the background just right of the upper lip. The strong pattern, even though out of focus, competes with the striking textures of the face.
Regards,
Greg
