As the GreenBaron and I strolled in the area between The Bayon and the Elephant Terrace, we came on many small hidden delights - one of which was this beautiful pond and its excellent reflections.

GB had taken a couple of shots of this lady - after requesting permission. I had been snapping merrily then decided to try the fisheye - this snap was one of the results from that lens.

Shot in RAW, jpeg conversion. Resized and sharpened, no crop. In effect, posted as taken.

Hi Richard,

Hello Richard,

I was really 'drawn' to this shot!
You have chosen a good POV to draw attention to your subject! Everything leads the eye towards her! A masterly composition!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Richard.
Nice peaceful scene. I like your composition and use of the fisheye. Interesting reflections on the water and good natural colors.

You and Baron.....strolling?? Can I get a picture of that? HAHAHA! It's amazing, every place in the world looks like some place in Texas! Are all the trees in Elephant Terrace bent? Is it because of the elephants? (just teasing you!) Nice shot Richard, love the reflection!

Great light with natural colours + a great composition makes this shot very pleasing to the eye .. nice work

Hiya Richard

Lovely POV here and excellent sharpness and details. Now then you know I am always totally honest with your images and there is something I am missing here, as ever this is totally personal and I am not saying the shot it wrong.I just feel that there is nothing complete, the trees, the wall and the water are all cut. Possibly a shot from further back so we could see the whole of the tree on the left bending round as a natural frame, OH heck I just read all the other critiques and no one elce has said anything so maybe I am wrong. Its a balance thing.. Oh just shut up smurfie before you really put your foot in it lol.

Love the shot, just cant put my finger totally on why I dont feel its quite balanced, just slap me and I will shut up lol.

TFS kidn regards Smurfie

Very nice and quiet scenery Richard the woman reading makes it perfect.

Cool shot Richard, I like the fish-eye here,
gives a nice sense of the whole scene.

Well composed shot, you captured the tranquil mood of the place.

Ok, I swear this isn't a retaliatory critique 'cos you didn't like some aspects of my Cemetery shot! But ... this just doesn't hit the mark for me.

I think if this shot was posted by an unknown newbie it wouldn't have won so many positive critiques.

Personally I just feel that there's too much captured here - the fisheye wasn't the right lens to use for a scene like this, and I'm not really sure what you were trying to achieve. I'm also not sure if you knew what you were trying to achieve?

Details in particular are the awkward 'partials' - partial pond, partial tree, both the tall slender trunk centre-right, and the slightly-cropped thicker trunk on the left.

Good placement of the girl in the frame though, and a tranquil mood, I can certainly imagine the serenity of this place!

Rew

A very peacefull image Richard. Lovely view. I bet this lady didn't even notice you and Hans!
I do think it's a pitty the trees are a bit "round" due to the use of the fisheye lens, but other than that it's a fine shot with honest colors.

Cheers,
Anneke

Hello Richard:)
Great moment, great selection of lens to do it.
This scene is just beautiful with all accents around.
Regards - Tom

The colours and details here are very good. The fisheye adds an interesting quality to the whole and the mood is really outstanding.
The one thing I'd have been inclined to do woudl have been to compose with the lady placed closer to the thirds power point -- a purely subjective reaction on my part.

Hi Richard, Very pleased to see the visit to meet Greenbaronwent well. Very fine composition. The inclusionof the tree to the side makes an ideal frame edge. Looks a very relaxing place withideal reflections. TFS. Murray.

Hello (again) Richard,
I took a further look into your gallery and your three latest photos struck me, as they look different from the previous ones.
For each of these three photos, I tend to agree with Rew's comment on this one. I'm seeing a lot of interesting things, but at the same time, I'm missing a real visual focal point. Composition seems too complex to me, without a real hierachy between all the things we see.
In this particular case, your title draws our attention towards the lady, but had your photo been an untitled one, I would have noticed first the interesting, curved reflection of the tall and small tree in the water (effect of the fisheye lens, I read).
So, my suggestion would be to simplify the composition by concentrating on that three, as well as on the - curved - three on the foreground (there is a nice symmetry between their shapes). A tighter crop (even tighter than in the workshops proposed so far) would help us to see what counts and what's only accessory. That kind of crop would also give a little more importance to the lady.
As I said, I notice the same small "flaws" in your three latest posts. Perhaps because they have been taken during a "stroll" you really enjoyed for other reasons than only photographic ones. Maybe the fact that these photos are closely related to a very personal event, make them a little less universal than many of your previous post...
Just my personal thoughts, of course. Feel free to (dis)agree ;o).
TFS & kind regards,
Erik

So very natural Richard. Excellent colours and lovely detail. Off home for Christmas? From heat to cold, expect a dose of the flu :). Nice shot.
