"Banteay Srei is built largely of red sandstone, a medium that lends itself to the elaborate decorative wall carvings which are still observable today. The buildings themselves are miniature in scale, unusually so when measured by the standards of Angkorian construction. These factors have made the temple extremely popular with tourists, and have led to its being widely praised as a "precious gem", or the "jewel of Khmer art"

The is a beautiful wee temple about an 45 mins - 1 hour away from Siem Reap and the more well known temples of Angkor Wat and The Bayon. It is well worth a visit - the temple itself is beautiful enough, but the moat adds an extra something to the experience.

Very unique buildings. I love the color of the water and the fantastic reflection! A very beautiful scene.

oh man, there are still so many beautiful places on earth i want to visit once - and now i have to add this one to the list.
such a wonderful shot and overview of the interesting temple-area. terrific composition with the red sandstone
buildings "hiding" between the green trees in tha back and the water with its marvellous reflections and the pink water lillies
in the foreground. lovely job & happy birthday (?)!, thor.

Hi Richard,
This is a beautyful picture with very nice colours and reflections.
Greeting from Holland,
Adri

Hi Richard,
Boy how's that possible, I had almost exact the same picture ready to post..so you spoiled my day my friend :-) Just joking I had to find another picture and I did, together with a nice WS.
Well regarding this posting; although the colours particular in the reflection are great, the lower part of the sky looks a bit washed out, nevertheless the site it self, the redish colours are perfect exposed. You also give a great overall impression of the whole site. You even show some lost Jappanese :-)
Great posting my friend.

Well ... great subject and a great opportunity, but I don't reckon this one quite hit the mark.

I can see why you composed it this way, you wanted to capture the temple, and the water, and "a bit of everything" - but as often happens when we take a shotgun approach to such a subject, it lacks the impact or focus it should have.

My recommendation would be (after levelling the slightly-skewed horizontal plane) to look at re-cropping this in keeping with rule-of-thirds. Either more sky and no moat, or less sky and more moat.

A tighter crop would also eliminate unnecessary elements - the big tree on the left, for example.

The good news is that this shot is well metered, sharp, crisp, with beautiful saturation and great detail - so a bit more crop and other PP work would really make it shine, in my opinion.

Some of those places haunt me...so long ago... so many memories many of which are now erased...

Morning Richard
You notes were extremely helpful - particularly about the miniature scale. Beautiful colors in the sandstone.
My initial reaction was that horizon line is a bit off and that I would have liked to see a bit more of the reflection and less of the sky. but that is just a matter of taste.

Have a good week!

dan

Hi Richard,
Beautiful colors and view. Very lovely reflections in that mirror image lake!
