[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Not as good as some of Rew's superb studio shots, but I thought this was okay for a quick grab shot, at an indoors restaurant, using direct flash. Lighting was extremely low & it was difficult to focus & shoot in the dark. I haven't touched saturation here, except in the ceremonial headwear. The backdrop at left is a mockup of the traditional Angkor Wat style of window. It's difficult to imagine that professional dancers like this, were rounded up & executed, during the murderous Pol Pot years of 1975-79. Their crime? They were considered "too bourgeoisie".

Vietnam invaded Cambodia in 1979, ending the carnage, after many of its expat citizens, too, were murdered by the Khmer Rouge (Red Army). China strongly disapproved, & subsequently had a bloody, 2 week war with Vietnam to teach it a lesson. Apsara Dancing & many other forms of cultural expression went underground & slowly re-emerged again after 1979. It dates back many centuries in Cambodia, & there are carvings of the dancers on the Angkor Wat temples, nearby.

Hi Chris,
A good POV to present to us these folk dancers in their traditional costumes!
I like the blurred companion of the dancer!
Nice body poses and good management in light, a bit harsh due to flash but well controlled!Good PP work.
Very nice costume to admire.
TFS and regards,

Francis Xavier

Hi Chris,

Good shot of the beautiful dancers, and interesting note. I like this type of photography, rising to the occasion and making the best of what is available. Just curious, do you use manual focus?

Hello,

Merveilleuse iamge, quelc aptage de cette danseuse, le mouvement de mains, ces tons dorés sur son costume, mangigique.

bravo et amitié

As the name of the dance describes, "Apsara" in Sanskrit language stands for a young and beautiful girl who also adore great art of dancing and your capture defines its so well, Chris!

Wonderful work with perfect sharpness and from a very well chosen POV. The dark BG gives nice contrast to these beautiful 'Apsaras'. Greatly composed work!

best regards,
Paras

Hi Chris, Good angle to show the dancers hands/fingers curled back which is so much a part of this sort of dancing as in Thailand too. Good clarity and the golden silk dresses look very good indeed. TFS. Murray.
